Does SMP help with Firewire recording?

All, I have a couple servers lying around (Dual 2.4GHz Xeon) and I was wondering if there is an advatage to have them as my HD recorders using firewire from my STB versus a single processor machine. I am unfamiliar with how the threading will work recording from the firewire and want to know if I will see an increase in performace going for a dual processor machine versus a single processor machine.

It's all 1394bus IO to PCI bus IO as a digital transport stream. AFAIK it's DMA so no.
