Getting burn in problems with my plasma

I just noticed lines being burned in on my Samsun 50 plasma. The problem seems to be that we watch all 4x3 format tv so the lines where the black blocks are are getting burned in.

Is my only solution to watch all 4x3 tv in 16x9 mode? Is there any other option to save my screen?

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_...Screen_burn-in

Plasma displays also exhibit another image retention issue which is sometimes confused with burn-in damage. In this mode, when a group of pixels are run at high brightness (when displaying white, for example) for an extended period of time, a charge build-up in the pixel structure occurs and a ghost image can be seen. However, unlike burn-in, this charge build-up is transient and self corrects after the display has been powered off for a long enough period of time, or after running random broadcast TV type content.
Just curious if you are confusing transient burn-in with permanent burn-in. I must admit the first time I noticed that my plasma tv still retained it's image after the tv turned off... I was a little freaked. I've come to discover that this is normal, and that the charged pixels do go back to normal after a while, or if another image is displayed over it.

Plasmas usually have a few features to help with this as well. Most have an orbiting feature which shifts the image slightly (a few pixels) periodically to help prevent burn-in. Sage has a similar option in it's setup.

Many TVs also have a "cleaner" that can be run to push all the pixels and help reduce any burn-in that may be seen. Ultimately your best bet is to try and mix up the 4:3 and 16:9 content enough that it's not all one or the other.

I'm away from my system right now, but I thought Sage had a built in Orbit function.

I looked through all the settings under detailed setup but could not find it. I am using SageMC, perhaps that stv removed this setting?

It's called video orbiting duration, I use it have it set to 10 minutes or something. Don't notice it moving around. Also not sure if its in sagemc.

i am using the stxhd100 extender.

The burn in I am talking about is there even after an extended period of having the tv turned off. If you look close you can see a line where the 4x3 ends and you can almost make out the time.

My tv has pixel moving (forget the actual name) and it is turned on, but it has no way to remove burn in, that I can find.

It could still be "temporary" since some plasma tvs will continue to keep a charge in the pixels, even when the TV is "off" for performance reasons. If you want to test if it's temporary.... put some blank pictures, of solid colors in your pictures area. Load a few of the solid color pictures, and see if you can still see the "ghosting" bleeding through. If so, then it's probably not temporary. If your solid colors are still allowing the previous "burned in" image to bleed through, then unfortunately, it's probably permanent.

Send it a white screen for an hour or so.

The tv does have a white screen option, I will let it display that for a while.

So the next thing is to fix the problem with all my extenders, none of them will save the settings I select. They will not save "enable comskip" but more importantly they will not save the "Aspect Ratio Mode:" option. I need it to be set to "fill", thus getting rid the cause of my burn in.

If you don't like fill you might try the custom aspect ratio that Stanger89 came up with here for a non linear stretch.

Does your plasma have a "smart stretch" or "fill screen" mode?
It stretches the right and left 1/3 of the 4:3 image to fill the 16:9 screen so you don't have the burned in line when you switch to wide screen content.
Granted, the aspect will be a little screwed up on the edges of the screen, but the brightness variation between the constantly used and rarely used pixels should be evened out and less noticeable.

Also you may wish to play with your connections, my Dell deals with VGA, HDMI and component video totally different.

HDMI is the most jacked up one too BTW! lol There is no way to get a true 1:1 pixel map.
