What tuner card are you using? It sounds like a driver issue for that card. Make sure you have the latest from their website and install the drivers running as administrator.

What is your source input? A long time ago other Hauppauge cards would show this if you selected something like composite 2 instead of composite 1. I don't know if that would apply to the HVR-1800, but you should consider it.
