&^$%*# Superbowl

I hate sports on TV. I especially hated the Stupidbowl this year as all the tens of thousands of out of town idiots were clogging up the streets and generally making life hard for us locals just trying to go about our business. Then, last night, I tried to watch the recording of last weeks episode of House. It turns out that their was a conflict last Tuesday and Sage chose to record the airing on Sunday right after the Stupidbowl. Unfortunately for me, the Stupidbowl ran over by 25 minutes and hosed the last airing of last weeks House episode.

I hate the NFL and the Stupidbowl.

I learned a new word the other day: asportual. It refers to an adult male who has no interest in pro sports.

Like you I wanted nothing to do with the Superbowl, but I happened to be flying into Phoenix this past weekend for the Tucson gem show. What a mess.

TV sports (in my opinion) ought to be confined to sports channels where there's no danger of bumping network programming. True sports fans all have ESPN anyway, right?

I guess I fit 'asportual'... I used to watch football in high school, but had no time for it in college & never had a desire to watch it again.

I heard about an amusing argument the other day where someone was saying that the day after the super bowl should be a national holiday, since people are all hung over or too tired from staying up late partying after the game. If that's the case, how about just moving the game to Saturday? That would make others safer on the roads Monday morning.

Yeah that's all well and good as long as you don't mind sitting in front of your computer to watch all of it. Or I guess if you have an HTPC...

not that it really matters, but Sunday's episode was a 2/3 first-run, not a replay of 1/28's episode.

Thats why I put a hour of end-padding on House since I knew it was on after the superbowl

I screwed up trying to extend my 'House' recording and accidentally spoiled the Super Bowl by seeing the hats of the winners before I watched the game

Fortunatly, it was a gigantic shock and made me want to watch the game even more. Kinda like an episode of a TV show where they start off by showing you an ending that makes no sense and then flashback to explain it all.

Do we need to start a support group? Asportual's Annonymous?

Ahhh. I just assumed that it was a replay since it aired Sunday. Actually, I didn't even know that the season had started until last weeks episode magically appeared in Sage. I have all my favorites set up as, well, Favorites and haven't seen a commercial in years (thank you Sage and JJ) so I am often surprised by season start ups and events like this one.

Maybe... but what are we going to do? We can't talk about last night's scores, who's on first, why we need a $100 million college stadium expansion that no one really wants to pay for while cutting academics... oh wait, I guess that last one might be valid for the support group.

I have a theory that 'SPORTS' were created to keep the Neanderthals occupied while the rest of creation evolved. If you want proof just check the stands at any pro game!

I'm not disparaging those who enjoy watching sports... I just get no thrill from it & can't see getting excited by the athletic activities of others.

I know someone whose class was asked in elementary school what their parents do... and that person's response was something along the lines of "My daddy sits in a chair and yells at the TV." Sounds like fun.

I thought Sage multi-tuner support was developed primarily to record multiple games at once. There is never more than one decent show on at a time.

I guss I'm in the minority here. I get so into sports that I can't watch them anymore without major stress problems. I still follow sports online, but I just can't watch them. It really freaks out people who have known me for years when they find out I don't watch anymore. My boss even threatened to have me removed from a meeting because I obviously had to be an imposter.

Tell them you had to stop for the sake of your health. If you start watching again, you may have to file for disability.

Watching Football Can Break Your Heart
04 Feb 2008

"Men are three times more likely to have heart attacks on days when their national football team is playing in a major match," The Daily Telegraph reported. The newspaper continued that a German study has discovered that during the 2006 World Cup, there were massive increases in the number of heart attacks and other coronary problems. The problems peaked during particularly exciting matches, such as those with penalty shoot-outs.

The researchers who carried out the study advised that the effect was so significant, that men with known heart problems should be given medication before watching a big match.
