Cn't update HD firmware, anyone do this with Vista?
I received my HD extender today but have not been able to update the firmware. When I try I see "Checking for firmware updates now..." for about a minute. I then see the following:
You currently are using firmware version: Failed checking for update. Make sure you network connection is configured correctly The current firmware version is 20071030 0 I am running the Sage server under Vista with UAC disabled. Has anyone been able to upgrade the firmware under Vista? Does anyone have any ideas? It also take a couple of tries before the extender is able to find the server. Other that these issues the extender seems to work fine.

The service provider seems to have been having problems all afternoon & that affected the store, the forum, and the firmware server, among other things.

I just tried again and still getting the same thing. I don't think my problem is related to the network problems. I first saw this problem in the morning before the network issues and the network appears to be working now.

Can any of the above posters verify that they are using VISTA? Support is using this thread as verifing that it does work on VISTA. Can anyone verify that they have updated the firmware under VISTA?

The HD extender doesn't use the server computer to do the firmware update so it doesn't matter if it runs Vista or not. You should go in the network settings and verify they are good for your lan.

Are you saying that the HD extender needs direct access to the internet? I have 2 networks on my system. Only my computers have direct internet access. The extender is on a local network because I expected it to use the Sage server to get the update.

Just like any other hardware appliance that does it's own firmware update such as a router, the HD Extender needs access to the Internet. Maybe you coud request an enhancement.

I was just able to update the firmware by putting the HD extender on the internet network. Therefore, the correct network configuration it have access to both the internet and the Sage Server.

You can use your SageTV server to serve the update to the HD Extender. To do this follow the HD Extender recovery process in the FAQ.

The recovery process is not the same as the firmware update process. Support had me try the recovery process and it made no difference. I think the recovery is intended to restore the initial boot up code for the extender, to be used when you don't have any control over the extender. The recovery process only takes a couple of minutes, where the firmware update process takes about 15-20 minutes.
