install files include Java runtime

The SageTV install files always include the Java runtime installer. Is that really necessary? It causes the placeshifter, for example, a 5MB program compressed to bloat to a 22+ MB install file.

If you're installing on a machine that doesn't already have Java installed, then yes, it's necessary. I suppose the reasoning is that it's better from a product support perspective to include everything that might be needed rather than leave stuff out and have some first-time users scratching their heads over why it doesn't just work right out of the box.

Then they should at least install a more current version of Java. If they are still using 1.4, there are known DST issues with it. A better alternative might be to direct it to the java web site for you to download it on your own.

I submitted a feature request to have them auto detect the OS, Java 1.4 is no good on Vista. I guess it hasn't been implemented yet

If the computer doesn't alreadt have java installed then the installer should autodownload a version and install it... Many other product have installers like this.

Having an ancient java packaged with all the sage installer files is rediculous.
