Menus garbled on placeshifter machine

I have a PS client that seems to function properly, other than I can very rarely read what I'm doing. Every time I click through the menus, the previous menu stays on the screen and the new one gets written over it. I can eventually get to live tv, so I know everything is set up properly. Runningn 6.2.10 on the server, and whatever the newest PS download is on a WinXP Athlon 2800 Radeon 9200.

thanks

What STV are you using and have you added any customizations? It sounds like the background image is missing, so it doesn't get loaded & displayed.

If using the dynamic menu customisations, you need to upgrade to the latest version and re-import into the base SageTV3.xml

I am using 6.2.10.152, with Sagemc 6.2.4 (or whatever the one is that came out a week or two ago). I have not added the dynamic menus myself, but did they come with sagemc? Do I still have to import? If so, is there any way to do this in the background, because once i get so far into the menus, it's impossible to tell what i'm doing.

Don't know if it matters, but this machine briefly had sage client, but i moved that to another. This issue has survived several reinstalls and reboots.

Using SageMC? then ignore me

You may want to try reverting to the default STV and/or clearing the properties for that placeshifter client (on SageTV Server; ProgramFiles/SageTV/SageTV/clients/<macaddress>.properties)

After installing SageMC make sure you have restarted the server so all of the new jars can start.

no dice. i deleted the related mac address prop files from the clients folder, and then rebooted both the server and PS box. Then, I made sure the mac address files were officially gone (they were), and then fully uninstalled/reinstalled PS, and got the same results. It doesn't occur on every single menu. Some of the submenus are okay, but the main menu seems to be where the trouble starts. For example, if I hit ctrl-x, the guide comes up with the main menu "superimposed" on top. If I keep hitting ctrl-x, the superimposed menu will slowly fade away, until i can see the guide fairly clearly, although there is still some garbage in certain spots.

what else can I try?

It still sounds like you have a background image file missing, but I don't know how SageMC's specifies bkg images (perhaps you were using a theme that you have since deleted?)

Also, Placeshifter properties inherit default values from the server's Sage.properties file, so maybe the bkg image or non-existant theme is specified there...

i don;t really recall having messed with themes very much as I am still striving for basic functionality, athough it was a while back that i had client on here. are there some things being left behind in the registry after i uninstalled? what keys can I check for?

For anybody searching on this issue, the latest java update fixed me. I just ran the updater on the java console in control panel (which I usually leave on manual, cuz if it ain't broke, i don't want to automatically break it.) It gave me version 1.6.

I noticed the exact same problem last weekend while camping in our RV. The campground had WiFi and I logged in to my home server and the menus wouldn't clear, making it impossible to navigate. I didn't thing to try a different .stv. No problems with the Placeshifter on my local network.

I am having the same problem here.

I am using Vista, with an up-to-date Java. The menu rendering also affects the on screen menu/time bar/etc. while a show is playing.

Has anyone reported this to support yet ?

Are you having this problem while using the default STV with no customizations? If so, then report it. If not, then it isn't an issue for support.

Menus superimposed on new install

Hi ,

I'm having this problem on a new install of the release candidate 6.3.3. Basic setup, default STV, no extenders/additional clients, default Java that came with Sage.

I will try updating to Java 6. Any ideas are welcome.

P.S., this is a trial edition (that I'm evaluating for upgrade) on a new Windows XP instance. I also have a fully functioning Sage5 system on an older machine that runs fine but without all those cool new features.

The java update to 6 solved the problem for me! Now I can continue to explore the new features ...
