SageTV is missing the Placeshifter Menus
I'm a long-time SageTV user, and I'm now ready to try Place shifter. First, I tried upgrading to Sage 6.1.8, but that didn't work. My PC would reboot (without a blue screen) every time I started Sage or the Sage service.
So I re-ghosted to my 5.0.4.92 build, and then looked at the Sage 5 manual. It said to go to Detailed Setup->Advanced, and that the Placeshifter settings were there. It even showed a screen capture. I'm in the right menu, but the three Placeshifter related menu items aren't there. I see "SageTV Server", and then "Load at Windows Startup" directly below it. But the three menu items that are supposed to be between those aren't there: "Media Extender and Place Shifting Server", "Place Shifting Login Password configuration". and "Place Shifting Locator ID". Is there some special trick to get these to show up in the menu? And if I do get the PlaceShifter server to work in SageTV 5.0.4, is it even possible for me to buy a Placeshifter client license any more for Placeshifter 5? Thanks, Brook |

Make sure you're using the default SageTV3.xml. Not the older .stv extension.

Do you have SageTV Server set to enabled?

Thanks, that did it.
Thanks for the replies. I've got it working now. Here's what happened.
Yes, I did have the server enabled, but I was using Malore's STV. I tried to take your advice to use SageTV3.XML, but even though the file existed, I was unable to select it. The Sage menu would only let me select STV files. So I tried going back to SageTV3.STV. That was no better than Malore. Finally, I decided to make those pesky STV files 'disappear' for a while, so I shut down Sage and renamed them with a .HIDE extension. When SAGE restarted, it began automatically using SageTV3.xml. And sure enough, the Placeshifter menus showed up. And the STV seletion option even showed up allowing me to choose either STV files or XML files. I set up Placeshifter, and was able to connect from another PC where I have Placeshifter Client 6 installed. Worked well. It's interesting that Placeshifter 6 can connect with SageTV5. I still wanted to use my Malore STV, because I like it much better than the default Sage menus. So I removed the ".HIDE" extensions from the STV files, went into the setup menu and switched back to Malore's STV. Locally on the server everything appeared to be back the way it was before. The Placeshifter menus disappeared. I lost the ability to select an XML file as the STV, and the Malore menus that I like reappeared. Would Place shifter continue to work? Yes! It appears that even though you can't see it in the setup menu, it is still working in the background. Now I'm off to figure out more about Placeshifter. I don't expect you guys to answer these questions here (unless you want to). But here are the things I'm trying to figure out. Time to hit the forums and FAQs . . . 1) How can I use Placeshifter with a remote control? I've been using the Hauppauge 34 button remote on the server, but I don't have a remote for the Placeshifter client. Any recommendations on what will work? 2) Why won't the Malore STV menus for "Sage TV Recordings" that I've enabled on the Sage server show up on the Placeshifter client? It still shows the 'standard' menus. I even restarted the Sage service on the server. That didn't help. 3) Will a Placeshifter 6 license work with SageTV5 server? If not, how can I buy a Placeshifter 5 license? 4) I had problems with trying to install SageTV 6. System would reboot without a bluescreen the moment either SageTV6 or its service started. However, given that I'm not doing any HD, is the upgrade to SageTV6 worth the trouble to figure out the problems and the additional registration money? Thanks again for the help from both of you!
