HDHomerun troubles
Hey guys,
I don't know what to do with this. I bought an HDHR a few months ago and have never been able to use it. Well, I take that back, it worked great the first time I set it up, but then I upgrade the firmware that SiliconDust checks for automatically and have never been able to get it working since. I talked to support at Silicondust after the it happened way back when. They logged on to it and said they couldn't find anything wrong. The problem I'm having is pretty much no signal. I was able to find 7 local channels and got them all setup in SageTV. When I go to any one of the channels, first everything bogs down to nearly a stop, then all I get are blips and bleeps of the sound and the picture is in huge blocks. Unwatchable. I don't understand how I was able to get this working with the firmware that came with it then as soon as I upgraded everything went wrong. Is there a known issue about this or am I doing something wrong. I can't figure out what that would be. Thanks in advance, Dana

Are you able to view any of these channels using HDHomeRun Config (GUI) and VLC Media Player?
The GUI should show you Signal Strength, Signal Quality and Symbol Quality while you view the video in the VLC window. I'd try diagnosing your issues using these tools first before throwing SAGE into the mix. I've noticed that I can have good Signal strength and quality but if the Symbol quality isn't great the stream breaks up badly. |

I agree and I would try these first. However, I am finding out with the latest Silicondust driver, firmware and the latest Sage RC3 I am able to view fine in VLC but in Sage I cannot. Myself and at least 1 other person confirmed that the firewall was preventing this Shutting down the firewall has enabled good tuning. Postings on that forum.
Try to shut down the firewall on the server as well. Are your server and HDHR on the same subnet? |

What ver.# f/w & s/w are you trying to use with the HDHR?
I dont think think this would help but, if your still running java 1.4 (in ur sig) I would recommend upgrading to 1.6 |

I went through this same exact issue recently. It worked for a while, then when I rebuilt my PC I couldn't get it to work.
The problem is that Silicone dust recently changed the way their drivers work. In response SageTV changed the way you have to setup the HDHR in Sage. Basically I used the directions on how to setup HDHR in MCE, using the remap file. Here are some other links to read through. I followed these and it worked great. Just got this working three days ago. My original post. I originally mis-diagnosed the problem, but the last post is where I figured it all out. http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=27166 The Thread I used to actually setup the HDHR. I just read the first few posts and figured it out, I didn't read all 7 pages of posts. http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=25953 Hope this helps and Good Luck. |

Assuming you are using cable and not OTA, the problem lies with everything changed in literally just the last few days. Ignore the instructions on the forum because they are not bad, just outdated.
If you have not done so already, install the latest: Download the latest SageTV 6.2.8 RC3 and install located here: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27207 Download and install latest beta drivers from Silicondust located here: http://www.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2484 Follow the NEW instructions on Silicondust site located here: http://www.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3738 Choose digital cable These new instructions have new way of mappings and change the mappings directly in SageTV. It now allows you to scan directly in SageTV. Scanning took 1 minute for me. It went so fast I thought there was a problem. If you have problem scanning, like I said earlier, try turning off the firewall and scan. This still continues to be a problem for me. |

Also, while people here are happy to offer suggestions, I'd strongly recommend posting your problem on the Silicondust forums. Their tech support is extremely good.
