PVR-USB2 audio humming

I have 2 USB2 devices and one of them started to record a humming sound recently.

I tried switching the cables from my other USB2 to rule out the cables or the STB...
The only thing I haven't tried is connecting it directly to Coax and setting it up to use TV-Tuner.

The 2 USB2s use the same driver so can I assume it is a hardware issue?

Any of them near a power or extension cord?

I used to have it downstairs in the cellar and had no problems for a while. I figured that something shifted and was causing interference with it, but it sat right next to the other USB2 which was not giving me any problems.

I just finished moving the server and components into the guest room upstairs. Locked door, small room to keep A/C on 24/7 and get rid of the ugly haze of wires in the family room. Now I made sure that the USB2s were far away from anything that could interfere with them and I am still getting the humming noise.

Source?

Are you using the onboard tuners or video/audio input. Switch the source from one to the other to rule out the source or cables/ connector issues.

Hi Briands,

as stated earlier, I tried switching the cables and STB from the other USB2 device that is not humming and it still hums.

So I've ruled out cables, STB, interference and drivers. The only other logical conclusion must be a hardware defect?

is it or the cables passing near a power transformer inside some equipment?
also, some TV's emit a lot of 60Hz vert. synch.

The TV is 8 feet from the USB2 device. The USB2 devices are now about 6' from the PC with no other device next to them.
I have moved all my equipment from my downstairs family room to my upstairs guestroom and switched out all Coax, Composite and S-Video cables with new ones.

Both USB2 devices are right next to each other and the other one is fine.
I even tried moving them away from each other as well. No matter what I do I still get the Humming out of the one USB2

are all devices powered by the same AC outlet (TV included)? If not, possible ground loop.

Swapping the USB2's - to see if both do NOT hum in the good situation - done?

If problem follows one particular unit - maybe it has a bad audio connector or power supply/wall-wart.

All powered on same Surge protector.
Yes, I switched the cables and it follows the USB2 unit, not the cables or STB.
I'm also thinking bad USB2 unit.
I will call Hauppauge and see what they say.

did you interchange the wall-wart power supplies? Small chance it's bad - regulator failure, etc.
