Upgrade Question - Server hardware
All,
I currently run Sage 5.x on a Duron 1.8GHZ machine with 512mb of Ram. It supports 2 client machines. It has been working great for me, except one of my client machines has died. I am planning on purchasing a media extender and wanted to know if the current server can handle streaming all formats to it. I watch a lot of XVID/AVI formats as well. I am also planning on upgrading to the latest version 6.X. I do have a AMD 64 3700 (2.4GHZ) processor and motherboard I could use if this would improve performance greatly. Any help is appreciated. I would use the 2.4 for streaming. I have a 4400+ X2 2.4Ghz and it sometimes uses all of one core to transcode to the MVP.
Something to be aware of going from a full client to MVP that I found out the hard way: Aspect ratio can not be changed on the a transcoding video so things might look out of whack on certain TVs.

Ok, so do we think the 2.4 will be able to handle the transcoding?
