HD Homerun Antenna question

Hey guys,

I am about to buy the HD Homerun box. My question is what type of antenna are most people using to capture OTA HD? I live aprox 15-20 miles out from "the city". Do I need a large antenna on the roof, or will a pair of rabbit ears do it? BTW, how ironic that in this day and age, we would have rabbit ears in our living room again

DB-4

There's the one I have, mounted in the garage attic, run a piece of coax from there to the HDHR. Nothing visible, looks great!

With your distance, you might get away with db-2

But it really depends on how far from the HD signal you are, not the city.

Go here to find out Antennaweb

edit-don't go with the bestbuy/circuitcity/walmart rabbit ears if at all possible. I haven't heard of anyone that is happy with the purchase and the price is about the same or more than a real antenna. Even if you have a little sweat involved in getting in the attic or patching a small hole in drywall, it is worth it. And no, you don't need a large antenna on the roof, at your distance, the attic is fine, provided you don't have a metal roof.

Thank you for your help! These are great sites. It looks like the db4 will work, however I may be inclined to purchase the the db8 since it will pick up everything for sure. The db8 is the same height so attic fitment should be an issue.

Again, Thanks for your help!

Rabit ears work fine for me. My stations are about the same distance as yours...

I think it's actually the UHF loop that captures the OTA DTV. Unscrewing the rabbit ears doesn't make a difference in my signal strength.

Just remember the CHannel Master Db8 (4228) is a one piece antenna you will have issues getting it into your attic. You can drill out the pop rivets and use nuts/bolts once you get it into your attic, but unless you have a massive attic door/hole it will not fit. Also you'll loose about 20db of the signal in the attic.
