Lockup every 10 minutes

Greetings,

I received my MVP player yesterday and hooked it up properly.

It had no trouble finding the server, however no matter what I do it will only run about 5-10 minutes before locking up and disconnecting. Here is a snipette from the log files.

I am running the latest version of SageTV.
The service is setup properly.

1GB Ram
AMD Processor
Video and TV files served off of a server.
The client runs on the server just fine with no problems.
Current version of Java
Current version of Nvidia Dual TV Drivers
Nvidia Pure Video Decoder.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It appears that you need to reserve an IP address for the MVP unit on your DHCP server.

I have done this and the unit quit locking up on me for now, we will see how it runs in the long run.

I will keep you posted.

Have a good one.

Worked like a charm, it ran all night without any glitches.

I will let it run like this for a few days more to see if it is permanent.

I am using a SBS 2003 server here at the office, I found this tip after scouring the internet for a similar problem, it escapes me that Sage Support is not aware of this problem, as during all of my correspondance with them it was never mentioned.

Perhaps a sticky of tips and tricks is in order for this forum.

Same way with the fix for Nvidia dual tuner cards, I had to dig for weeks before finding the fix to that, support was in the dark as well on this subject. I was getting freezes every 1/2 hr.

Although one of the settings they did give me to change was needed, they forgot the second one.

Makes selling this product to end users a risky venture at best.

Yes it is.

I am not a big fan of DHCP I prefer to hard code and or reserve IP's for devices on my network, and that is what I did in this case.

However it would be nice if the MVP allowed you to harcode an address.

Again I will say it would be nice if we had a sticky where some of the items in SageProperties and or SageClient properties were explained in a little bettter detail.

Trouble is so many people have so many different configurations it makes it hard to narrow the problem down, so I can understand where it can make it difficult for Sage support to troublshoot. Hell it makes it difficult for me as well

Could you spell out your solution in more detail? I am having the same problem with a very similar debug log and I'm not sure how to fix it.

Did you use the MAC address of your MVP to set up a static IP for it in your router? I have a Linksys WRT54G router and I'm not sure I can do that with the stock firmware . . .

Thanks,
Lee

I think I solved my problem. I had one PC with a static IP that the router had served to the MVP. Changed that PC to dynamic and so far things are stable.

I thought the MVPs had to be DHCP, i.e., incapable of being setup for static IP.

The DHCP server may be setup to provide the same IP every time the MVP's MAC address is presented.

Correct, the MVPs have to use DHCP. My problem was that I had a mixed network and ended up with two devices on the same address. Since my router does not support MAC-based IPs, I have set everything to dynamic and life is good.
