Vista/Nvidia troubles
Background info:
Sage Client 6.1 I am running the latest beta vista drivers 101.70 and I've also tried 101.41 I've tried Purevideo .223, powerdvd 7 and the microsoft decoder. It's running on 32bit vista ultimate with a nvidia 7600gt dvi to my 24" monitor. When I was using windows 2003 on this machine, I was able to get perfect smooth playback with FSE enabled. However now when I enable FSE in vista, it doesn't seem like it's sticking. It looses focus whenever another window is called to the front, even with disable_fse_on_focus_lost=false set. This results in tearing, vsync ain't locking. I have already reported it to support, although there's nothing really mentioned in the log files. So I guess this is a hard one to trouble shoot. I'm just posting this here in case some else runs into this issue. Then we can see what we have in common. |

I'd like to see a sticky or something for a users' Vista support forum - there's definitely a wealth of issues for Vista users to deal with.
In regards to stuttering, I've followed the following post's guidelines: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23853 Except, that I've also set the Sage TV MPEG 2 Splitter merit to low priority. Also, this may or may not work with your setup, but after tiring hours of trying different codecs and NVidia driver versions, I've found that completely uninstalling the NVidia control center/downloaded drivers, and using the Vista-provided ones completely eliminated any stutter in both SD and HD playback. Now, I'm using component out, not DVI - not sure if that will make any difference. Overall, my experience with Sage under Vista has been great - there's still an occasional glitch, but understanding the beta nature of Vista drivers, things will work out eventually.
