HDTV venture continues

Back in January I posted my problems in not getting any QAM channels on my new 50" Panasonic HDTV(http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...p?t=228602860). Recently I had a Cablevision Tech out to fix a problem with the SA8300HD/DVR(man would I like to dump that piece of junk). He also changed out a splitter on the outside of the house which seems to have resolved the tuning of the QAM channels problem I was having . I did a scan for cahnnels a few days after the splitter replacement and got all of the major networks HD channels(NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC,CW9, channel 11,PBS, and WLIWHD) . So it looks like I can go ahead with the purchase of an HDhomeRun to reccord HD programs with Sage. I am assuming that since the TV QAM tuner picked up these channels so will the HDHomeRun. Is this a good assumption?

PS These channels are tuned by entering 2-1 for CBS, 4-1 for NBC, 5-1 for FOX etc.

Yup, unless you've got a CableCard installed in the TV you should get the same channels with the HDHR.

Read the HDHR forum as well as the thread here, but you may have to scan and remap to the physical channel number you get via QAM...the QAM channel will not be 2-1, etc...

(I always use the HDHR CLI app to get the physical number and then remap the Guide Data...You may be able to scan within Sage, I think that's been working for a while...I just don't do it that way, so I can't verify).

Any comments on how 'sensitive' the QAM tuning is on the HDHR?

I'm sure I'm not asking the right question, but here is my situation: I have a QAM-able HDTV. I happily watch HD programming via cable/QAM *most* of the time. Sometimes a channel will just be missing from the TV's lineup. 20 minutes later, it'll often be back. I don't know if it's the TV or the cable. It seems that some HD channels are very stable, and are always there. Others drop out frequently, and sometimes don't show up again for days.

Is there any hope that the HDHR would more reliability hold these channels?
