D10 Directv slow channel changing

Since about v6, It seems the DTV serial control has gotten laggy when changing channels, It seemed alot quicker in later versions of 5. I thought a fresh reload would fix this, Anyone know what the deal is?

Guessing he looked back at the original v6 info and found this...

7. Added support for faster channel changes by setting the DirecTVSerialControl FastChannelChanges registry setting to 3

Obviously only works for serial control...

I am not too sure where to set that. Searched the registry for the info to no avail.

TIA

Actually I replace the original DirecTVSerialControl.dll with this one, That I found in this thread on the 6th post down, Posted by Hector.

Now the channels change uber fast and seem to be extremely reliable.

This is giving me fits. I installed the latest version of Sage and it doesn't control my DirecTV receivers at all. I replaced the original .dll with the one Hector posted (5.10.06) and it changes channels but every day it locks up and stops changing channels. I have to restart the Sage server to get it working again.

Can anyone give me some direction about what might fix this?

Thanks,
Clay

I have an RCA 430RG and DirecTv D10-100 boxes. I am controlling them with serial cables via the low speed data ports. I have not yet started a ticket with support.

Using the older .dll the channels change correctly but about once a day they stop working. I read in an earlier post someone claiming that it was locking up their serial ports and I would have to agree that's just what it feels like. Channel changing always works after a Sage restart but stops working after a number of channel changes(it varies).

Thanks for any help,
Clay

without knowing better, sounds like you need a support request. I have D11 boxes all controlled with Paterson devices.

Now that I think about it, I had a similar problem last time I reloaded my system. It would lock up the complete system after I tuned 3 or 4 channels. After hours of tearing apart sage to try to figure out why, It turned out that I was using the MS drivers for my USB to Serial Converters, So I unloaded the MS drivers and loaded the drivers from the CD that came with it and everything worked perfect from there on.

Just A thought, I wish you luck.

Hey thanks everyone for the help. Tracker1001 got me thinking. I do use a USB serial adapter so I checked and I do have the correct driver. I started looking around at any other program that could be a problem and I had Powerchute installed. It's a UPS backup program that lets the UPS tell the server when to shut down. I have not been using the serial cable for a while. I uninstalled it and have actually changed channels 15 times without a lockup I will hold my breath tonight and be so daring as to change even more channels!

Thanks for the help.

Under hkey_local_machine\software\frey technologies\sagetv in the registry, add a new dword value of DirecTVSerialFastChannelChanges. Try setting it to 3 or 1. It significantly speeds up channel changes for me...

I had to email them to get the proper registry key... I'm pretty sure it used to be in the faq, but I couldn't find any info on setting this key when I recently looked due to moving my Sage system to a new server.

You can also just use this reg file in the attached zip file to add the registry entry for you...

Just double click the file and it will create the entry for you.
