You need to setup a static IP on the network card you plan to hook up the HDHomeRun to via crossover. ie. IP of 192.168.10.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0
then when you install Magik DHCP server it'll let you bind it that network adapter. Then in Magik DHCP you need to setup an IP range I believe. (I've already uninstalled it and am running it all via a second router now that I have 2 HDHR devices). Power cycle the HDHR and it should get an IP address from the server (you can verify by viewing the DHCP leases given out by the server software) and the device should now be seen by the various HDHR utilities.

Hopefully this helped.

Another person in the HDHR forums claimed he was able to simply bridge the two NICs and the HDHR then gets its IP address from through the bridge. I haven't tried it myself (waiting for my HDHR to arrive Wednesday).

That was actually me. It was working, but it seemed a bit flaky. I am going to see if it is better using the method described above.

Thanks! That worked beautifully.

Are you able to change channels while watching a stream from the HDHR and not have it hang?

Thanks

Right. It does not hang when I change channels via OTA. I haven't tested that via QAM but I suspect it would work the same.

Can you describe your setup - are you watching the OTA HDTV channels on your main server machine? Are you running sage as a service? which decoder are you using?

For at least three people, including myself, channel changes result in a frame from the last recorded program and unsuccessful starting up of the new stream.. I think it's actually being written correctly, it just doesn't get shown correctly..

What you described has happened to me several times actually. So I guess I too am experiencing this. Some times when it happens and catches part of the other channel I can still watch the new recording ok other times it kind of hangs. The files are being written because almost all of the recordings I can fix using VideoReDo's quickstream fix.

At least I know then it is not just me. I sounds like all of us are having the same problem. Hopefully they will fix it as quick as the other issues that have come up!

Is this a problem with the device and its own software, or with the their implementation of the SageTV encoder protocol?

ToxMox's statement of being able to *fix* transport streams has me worried that the device might be flawed...

I don't think the device itself is flawed. It works perfectly in VLC. I think they are just ironing out the kinks with Sage. Considering the beta Sage driver/software for the HDHR is less than two weeks old I'd say it has come a long way and I know it is being improved on an almost daily basis.

I just set up my HDHR on my dev machine tonight. The video/audio is choppy through VLC, whereas live video from my MyHD plays back smoothly (both through overlay). I guess this may be due to differences in the streaming technology...

I'll be testing with Sage next, but probably not before we go out of town for Thanksgiving.

strange -it streams flawlessly through vlc for me... are you streaming OTA or QAM? how's the signal strength?

When I had first tried viewing QAM with VLC and HDHR, I had horrible playback. I then tried on a different PC with a better processor and graphics and had no problem. I can play HD using Sage with no problem on both PCs but VLC is not the most optimized player or recorder. It is know more for it's versatility and options.

The lines were taken out of the instructions since the latest version now has a config built in to it. From the instructions in the Sage thread on Silicon Dust:

Quote:
There will be two tabs for each HDHomeRun found. To use with SageTV, right-click and chose "Configure". Set the correct source type and click Enable. Repeat for each tuner.

OK... so I'm intrigued. Would you say that this product is ready to use on a production Sage box? I currently have two Fusion5 USB's and would like to replace one of them with this. I think having dual Fusion5 USB's is causing a reboot issue on my box.
