New 2005 CES products

I noticed these on the 2005 CES announcement:

SageTV Media Center 3.0
SageTV Media Extender

I wonder if this means we will finally get a thin client from Sage similar to the MCE 2005 extender. I know we have the MediaMVP hack project which is cool, but it would be nice to get an official product that doesn't need a full pc for a client.

Come See SageTV at CES

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We will be showcasing the latest in Media Center technology at the upcoming CES show in Las Vegas, January 6-9, 2005. Stop by Booth #26912 in the South Hall 2 at the Las Vegas Convention Center or the ShowStopper Press Event the night of January 6th at the MGM Grand.

CES will be the launchpad for SageTV Media Center 3.0 and our SageTV Media Extender product. This new technology will be a breakthrough in the Media Center market and will enable complete home media and PVR solutions at a much lower price point than comparable MCE and TiVo offerings.

Stop by for a demo or if you'd like to schedule a specific time for a meeting, please contact me directly at dan@freytechnologies.com. To see our complete listing go to the CES website at http://www.cesweb.org/attendees/dir...sp?exhibid=8430.

See you in January!

Dan

The MediaMVP client does not need a seperate PC from what I can see. In fact, it works exacly like the MCE 05 extender in that the app runs on the PVR machine and streams to the extender.

I can't wait to see what these are all about. I live in Phoenix, just 5 hours drive from LV, I think I'll be going up there to see first hand. What's required to get in CES?

Personally I'm hoping that they are splitting the PVR and frontend/media player into 2 products (ala BTV and BMedia) and really, really beefing up the media player. Actually, they could keep the all-in-one approach as long as they significantly add to the media player but there are others who just want a PVR only. Me, I want a single, integrated PVR and kick-ass, plays-everything-from-MP3-to-WMA-to-FLAC-and-MPG1-to-MPG4-to-WMV front end/media player/PVR.

mlbdude...
Key words I meant are "official product". The MediaMVP work that has been done is great, but it would be nice to get a Frey supplied offering to simplify things & perhaps/hopefully remove any limitations on the thin client.

Wonder what the 3.0 version will offer? This is the first indication I've seen of a new product.

Unfortunately I can't comment too much until the show. We'll make an official statement and announcements that week. We'll then post the related information back on our website shortly after the show.

Didnt Sage have a media MVP working last year with Sage at CES. I was'nt there but I do think I remember someone say that they had a working model. If so that means that even if is shows up at CES it doesnt mean it will be something we can use right away.

Hot damn, can I pre-order now?

Seriously though, I hope this doesn't end up being an *end* of 2005 product. I guess we'll find out in a few weeks!!

Good luck!

I just wish I could be there, between this and the potential/probable launch of the Xbox 2, it's looking to be a very exciting CES.

Linux?

"Computer Hardware and Software - Linux Based Software"

Anybody else notice this in the catagories on the CES page. Brings up LOTS of possibilities.

Personally I hope there is an Xbox extender of some type because honestly that is pushing me to XP MCE 2005. And if it supported Live! Aware that would put Sage over the top.

I would settle just for *nix support of some type. I mean, heck, when it comes down to it, a decent video card is cheap these days (though there's still significant quality loss), and I have machines sitting around that would handle decoding of mpgs in linux with the greatest of ease...

While I agree that would be nice, I would say there is about a 1% change of that happening. Unless Sage wants to pony up the big bucks for an XBOX development kit and then the huge fee to get MS's certification (assuming MS wouldn't be pricks and keep failing the certification test to reduce competition...).

I would expect a separate hardware device (aka not an XBOX). Still a step in the right direction though!

a PSX?

i'd love for it to be something along the lines of a networked dvd player.
