those using nvidia 6800/6600 cards

how do they compare to what you owned previously and what did they replace?

getting antsy now and need to pull the trigger on a new card!!!

i'm either going with a 6600gt agp or a 9600xt (maybe a 9800 if the price is right) with a dongle.

for reference i own a 5900xt right now which looks absolutely stunning in 1080i using mediator however mediator is the only ap that will let me play back 1080i

I've got a 6800 that replaced my 9500. I love it, give me perfect VMR9 playback at 1776x1000i (1080i timings). That's over VGA though.

FWIW, I get no tearing even if I resize to 1776x1000 in ffdshow (lanzcos2).

Another note, IIRC from AVS, the 1080i DVI VMR9 tearing thing is a bug that apparently nVidia is aware of.

the quality was significant over the 9500 though?

i saw your post on avs regarding vga connection and vern's response. i guess my real question (as mlb has also recently pondered) is whether this will affect the component video output or if it is just limited to dvi?

my transcoder from the 5900xt (from vga) still wont work at 1080i

My buddy next door kind of got 1080i working with these drivers over DVI on my 5200. Still some issues but progress for sure.

I would like to hear some quality opinions too. Particularly when NOT using DXVA. When I went from my 5700 back to my 9600 I had better quality from the 9600 but I am thinking it is actually because I could get 1080i going.

i can tell you when not using dxva and outputting 1080i in mediator using either dscaler5 or nvdvd4 and ffdshow resize to 1920x1080i the picture is absolutely stunning on my fx5900xt (to my hitachi rptv)

however this is the only way i can utilize vmr9.

maybe it's just something wrong with my sage install but vmr9 just wont allow me to play back at 1080i within the sage interface (tv or dvd's) just choppy and nasty and that field interpolation bug is still hideous when viewing tv for me but yet never shows up when watching dvd's?

this past weekend was the first time that i've been able to watch a movie with the card pumping out 1080i and i need more now!!!!

if boke on his first ever attempt was able to write that custom allocator for mediator then how difficult can it be?

i NEED that full screen custom allocator

I would be using ZoomPlayer myself for this. Have you tried that to see if that at least works?

didn't try zoom only mediator.

i generally get the same results (tearing and cpu usage wise) from zoom as i do from the sage dvd player and the sage dvd player, while it looked good, was a no go.
