Never crashes. Last time I rebooted was for a security update for GDI. Uptime for Sage: 161 days. Before that..another software update. It's just like that battery bunny.....

I can crash it at will if I am watching LiveTV and without stopping the recording, I go into Media Library and try and play a DVD I have ripped to disk. SageTV just crashes instantly, it does not lockup.

If I stop LiveTV before going to DVD then no problems.

This is using NVDVD decoders. I had the lockup problems using the Sonic decoders as well so quit using them.

jdbrown,

I hope you have submitted this bug to support so they can fix it in the upcoming 2.1 release. Since your problem is so reproducible it should be easy for them to fix.

I Know that a bug report I submitted is being corrected in the 2.1 version which according to George in support: "I'm hoping the next version will be released within a few weeks." This is as of 10-4-2004, so hopefully that means that 2.1 will be available by the end of the month, but I would rather have them release a good release that solves many of these bugs than to rush it.

John

I also get crashes while fast forwarding and rewinding. The problem seems to come in spurts. I'll have no problems for a long time and then I'll struggle to finish a single show without it crashing.

Yes, submitted as a support request. No word back though - should I hear anything from them? I guess not unless they have further questions.

Sage will crash if I let it get to the end of a recorded show. IT actually resets the computer. After its forced restart it shows that one of the hauppague cards in not properly installed but his is bogus and if I do another restart everything will come back just fine, at which point I can boot Sage and it will work ok until the next time I forget to stop it before the end of a recording.

Mine crashes about once a week. I only use it to record shows, I never watch shows on the server.

Sage Client crashes constantly though. Usually once every couple shows when skipping ahead in the program.

I've only had crashes due to hardware problems.

The heatsink fall off of my pvr-250, and that was causing my pc to lock up solid any time sage tried to record. Once I found out what happened, I glued the heatsink back on, put a small fan on it, and I haven't had any other crashes.

About once every 2 days. It's when I'm watching a recording. Usually when FF, all of a sudden the TV screen freezes, however on my PC the video is still moving - then 10 seconds later the PC screen freezes.

Must restart Sage, and then it's OK.

Sometimes there is a 100% system lockup, where the mouse won't move etc.. must totally reboot.

Note, I had to shut off 350 UI Out in order to not crash every 10 minutes!

So, I am running Sage in such a way that I am 95% satisfied (wish I could turn on UI without crashing constantly while FF/RW).

It just crashed on me last night.

I checked on my HTPC around 8:15pm and Sage was down. It wasn't sleeping like usual and nothing was running in the taskbar. I had to relaunch the app. This happens perhaps once every 6-8 weeks. Note, I don't have any other crashing issues with Sage during playback, FF/RW, etc.. anymore. But it does just "stop running" all by itself every couple of months.

Needless to say I was kind of pissed because it was suppose to be recording Jack & Bobby @8PM. What was really annoying is that after relaunching Sage, it DID NOT automatically resume recording the 8PM show that was originally scheduled. Tivo does this automatically. If Tivo is recording or is supposed to be recording something but is rebooted or unplugged then plugged back in, the system AUTOMATICALLY resumes the recording after the unit comes back up.

I wish Sage had that feature. In fact, I wish Sage had an agent/Service running that could monitor whether Sage was in fact still up. And if it detected Sage had died, it would then automatically reload the program. Combining such a monitoring agent with the proposed "resume recordings if necessary after Sage restarted" would make application stability issues less important to me and others who rely on this PVR package. You see, I often go 5-7 days between usage of my HTPC, so it can be down for A LONG TIME before I realize the damn thing isn't running. Tivo is not 100% crash free, but mine is on a dedicated UPS and hasn't been rebooted since Feb 04 when I had to unplug to perform a 274GB HDD upgrade. Some sort of "uptime monitoring service" would go a long way towards making Sage more dependable, even if stability wasn't improved. I've mentioned it before, but dependability is another reason why I don't use Sage as my primary PVR.

If I reboot SageTV when a Manual Recording or Favorite is going on it starts recording again. I just end up with a small section missing.

Humm, very strange. I wonder why mine didn't do this last night? I'll have to try some experiments. I do think that an integrated monitoring service would be very helpful even though there is probably a 3rd party commerical package that can do this.

This is the same functionality I experience when I reboot or stop/restart SageTV when Manual Recording or Favorite is going on.

I think that if SageTV loses part of a recording due to a crash, but finds a future airing in its schedule upon launch, then it will ditch the first attempt and schedule the next airing to be recorded.

I have the same experience ... If I reboot or shut down Sage while a show is recording, when it comes back up begins recording again. You only lose the gap that was missed. Hopefully commercials!!!

Until last week never. Then I added a load more MP3 to Jukebox. And now it crashes every time I try to import my updated MP3 library. Any ideas?

Probably a MP3 with a bad or corrupted ID3 tag. You'll probably have to find it by a process of elimination. Import a smaller load and see if there are problems. Do this until you get the issue and then reduce the import until you find it. It may be more than one of them too.
