How often does Sagetv crash on you?

Been a sagetv user for almost a year now and I love the program but I have found some little annoyances with it. Over the last year, sagetv will crash once about every two weeks. Its pretty annoying really. Basically the screen will just freeze and it is pretty much game over. Ctrl-alt-del taskbar end program. The java symbol pops up on under do you want to end sagetv.

So here is what I am runing.
AXP1600
PC2100 128mb, maybe 256
Nforce2
1 PVR 250(this one doesn't have the rca jacks on the back)
1 netgear nic.

I am pretty close to formating the system and starting over. Rite now I run sageTV server on my HTPC but would like to relegate sagetv to its own box.

Any advice?

It doesn't crash on me at all. I believe that the last time it crashed was when I was still in the process of setting up my new server, which I think was about 6 months ago.

EDIT: OK, that was stupid. Yes, it has crashed on me, but not in about 6 months IIRC, except when I was messing around with decoders.

I've never had Sage crash during normal operation. The only crashes have occurred when:
1) I was playing around with beta releases
2) I was trying to use VMR9 on an underpowered video card and CPU

Both of these crash instances can be attributed to me rather than any fault of SageTV

Regards
Lester

Can't Remember SageTV Crashing on me when in production mode...i.e. when I am not installing new hardware, making changes to things that SageTV Uses. Even when I am I don't think it has happened that often.

EDIT: Ok answer to the second part of your question. I would definitely give SageTV its own system. Technically I am not leaving SageTV running all the time since I have power management enabled and I use SageWake to close SageTV before going to low power mode since the IR blaster fail if I do not. Starting from scratch might not be a bad idea either. My system is my server too as well as my main desktop I use for other things.

I have not had sage crash since I started using the nvdvd3 codec. I had some freezes when I was using the Sonic decoders.

Not unless it's my fault Messing with ffdshow/decoders/filters/renderers, etc. If I leave with a working setup, it just keeps working.

I'm going on vacation for a week. I hope I didn't jinx myself by declaring how stable Sage has been.

I can't remember the last time SageTV crashed while using a regular release version of the software. I think it had a problem with Direct3D once several months ago, but I usually run with 3D acceleration disabled. Of course, you can't do that if you want to use VMR9 & my problem could have been DirectX support in my video driver... who knows.

But, like most of the others have said: unless I'm messing with my system to install hardware or update drivers/software, SageTV just keeps reliably running.

Sage 2.0 never misses a beat, and always records everything it says its going to, that is.. at least while it is asleep. I have a pvr 350 and have to reboot about twice a week. It tends to freeze or max out the cpu meter on the system process while attempting various complex tasks such as watching a recording all the way to the end. I'm not complaining because I view this as a hobby and the amount of support and development in the Sage community is outstanding. I just wish I had taken the time to read more here in the forum about the hauppauge driver issues with the 350 and its TV out before I went and bought the hardware I did.

Interestingly enough I never had any problems with Sage 1.4 with the same hardware configuration. That being said I’d never go back to 1.4 or BeyondTV which I tried for a brief time.

Got the usual problem with PVR-350 and UI out. For me that means that the number of crashes is related to the use of FF/REW. So once every 20-30 times I use FF/REW usually, sometimes less often, sometime more...

Other than that no problem. Actually had it running for two weeks recently while on a vacation, using Sagewake and standby. Didn't miss a recording. So if I don't watch, I'm ok...

I've never had a crash in Sage.tv.

However, I did have problems when I was setting up the DVD settings, but figured that out after a little bit more research.

I never have to restart my PC too. EVER!

I have to reset the OSD out on my pvr-350 about every week. Although this is not a full system crash it is very annoying and embarrasing if guests are over.

Mine works about the same as yours. It will work fine for weeks at a time and then out of the blue lock up. Happens rarely enough that I don't really mind. It is still a computer after all and they just seem to be more finicky than say a Tivo. What does bug me though is the pauses I get whenever Sage starts a recording. Seems like about 5 seconds will pass, then it goes again. Otherwise I love it..

I had a lock up last night where after watching a recording with mlbdude's STV and if you hit back to go the main menu
it goes to liveTV for some reason
then I hit stop and lock up(and it does not always do this)
used task manager to end process and reopened SageTV

this is the only thing other than like stanger said messing with ffdshow, buggy decoders, and such

Red face Works for me ....

Rarely ever ... It's very stable ... Usually will only happen when I am tweaking and get something wrong ... Then I get some help here, fix it, and then all is well with the world again!

BTW: Using WinDVD Decoders

Unhappy

About once a week and always when viewing TV. I've never just found it crashed before. Running a show to the end is a big culprit but sometimes mid show everything just hard locks and it's ctrl-alt-del time.
