Can shows deleted from SageTV go to Recycler?

Is there a setting that can have SageTV put deleted shows into the Windows Recycle bin? When testing Plex to see if it was ready for Primetime i noticed it put the shows into the Recycle Bin. Having the ability to see what's been deleted and the possibility of undoing that was a pretty good feature after seeing things deleted by other members of the household before I got a chance to decide if I would like to have watched that particular show or not. In a perfect world, it would be unnecessary, but I've never got to live in one of those! And of course, I have never deleted something my mistake...

-Bill

PS. I've been using this forum for around 15 years, and there are so many categories/sections that seem redundant redundant, I always wonder where to put queries.

I think you might want to look into the Windows Recycle Bin property settings.
I "THINK" that would be the controlling factor.
If you try to delete a Windows file that is larger than the Recycle Bin settings, it will just permanently delete it instead.

Looks like it required a workaround until Java 9.

I just checked, each drive was set to 100 GB. So that doesn't seem to be part of the issue. -Bill

I didn't even know Java 9 existed. Should I download the Jave 9 JRE ? I am still on v8 build ~301

Holy Cow, Java 11 has been out a few years.

Java 9 finally added support for the recycle bin, but the code would have to use the function. Installing Java 9 alone won’t help.

There used to be an issue where deleted files put into the recycle bin still reported to the OS as used space, so if SageTV deleted a file to make room for a new recording & it went to the recycle bin instead, the space would not appear to be available, so another recording was deleted to make space, and... keep repeating.

No idea if Windows still does that, but it was why I turned off the recycle bin on all recording drives.

I have all my drives marked to allow recycle bin. But in the last 15 or so years I have never seen sage put a deleted file in there. Do you know how to do it?

I have huge amounts of free space available as often I compress ones I don't plan on watching quickly. And large drives have been dirt cheap for a long time now. -Bill

a file recovery program can be used to retrieve Sage deleted files (at least until the space occupied by the deleted file is written over.). Presuming you file(s) are on a drive local to the Sage server.

There are several available. I think Recuva will work (same folks as CCleaner).

Funny, I’ve been having no luck at all with Recuva since I rebuilt on W10, 64bit. I mistakenly deleted a video. Immediately, I opened Recuva. There was the file, except it was ‘unrecoverable’. What might I be doing wrong - another recording had not been scheduled or started, and there was reasonable hard drive space remaining…

I have been having a similar problem with win 8.1 that it is overwriting files essentially immediately. It has nothing to do with the recovery program -- I get idential results for several. It is Windows...
