Shows deleted prematurely

Multiple users use our Sage setup and we are finding that shows are being deleted way too early unless we keep manually deleting older shows. There is no way to change the priority Sage gives to show when deleting them is there? I would prefer oldest files deleted first, until it can recognize each users watched schedule.

I wrote a little program that automatically deletes the oldest files in a folder when the drives free space gets below 20 gigs. However I read on another thread that this is not advised as Sage does some internal tracking on programs and weird things can happen if a file is just deleted. Can anyone let me know if there are any problems with doing this?

Is there anything else I can try to ensure older files get deleted first? Preferably something automated. Going through and deleting old shows is not something I like to do. I am also aware of hitting the record button when watching a show to make a show manual, but I'm about the only one that does it, and it has its own problems anyway.

So far this is about the only thing I don't care for regarding Sage coming from the Tivo and Snapstream side of things. Otherwise awesome awesome awesome product.

I have had no problem deleting shows outside of sageTV in the past.

There doesn't yet seem to be a simple solution to multiple views...

It will delete watched shows first, keeping older unwatched shows. You could force everyone to mark a show as not watched after they view it. That way, it should just delete the oldest ones. Good luck getting everyone to follow that rule.

If you use the malore or MalDude custom STVs, you can have a display at the top of the menus showing how much free space there is. You could go through the recording list periodically & delete shows manually if you want -- no need to do it outside SageTV. This way, you choose which ones to delete, rather than simply automatically deleting the oldest ones.

Thanks for the reply, I started using my little program and it seems to be working fine. Only problem I came across is with the Archived shows, since my program would delete them. So far I've worked around that by moving the folders to a library folder and I can access them through the imported videos section. Not perfect, but it'll do until multiple user support is added.

Thanks again,
Marc Peters
