Captions and AMD

Over the years, I have been successful getting Captions to work in SageTV, using the video hardware embedded in the CPU. Usually I use Intel parts, using VMR9 or EVR for Video Renderer in VIDEO/AUDIO with MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter set to SageTV MPEG Video Decoder. I have also been successful with an AMD A6-5400K, using EVR with the AMD VIDEO DECODER.

I recently tried an AMD Ryzen 5 3400G with Vega graphics, and can't get captions to display. AMD VIDEO DECODER is not available as an option.

Does AMD no longer provide the necessary support for captions, or is there a setting I need to change, or driver I need to download? I have tried updating to the latest AMD driver with no success.

Also, I note that the 64-bit version of SageTV does not seem to provide the SageTV MPEG Video Decoder. Is there a way to get captions using a 64-bit CPU?

For future compatibility (and saving a lot of hair-pulling), does/will AMD support SageTV, and what drivers/settings should I try? Has anybody gotten this to work?

Should I just give up and stick with Intel and 32-bit SageTV?

Does the motherboard (manufacturer/configuration) have any effect?

I know this is a lot to answer, but you get my eternal gratitude.

The SageTV decoder was proprietary so only included if you install over V7 and therefore will never be in 64-bit. You should be able to run a 64-bit server and 32-bit client to get the captions.
