yes it can. You have to extract the captions into an .smi file (use mpg2srt, ccextractor, or showanalyzer to extract the captions) and then run JREkiwi's Closed Caption plugin, http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23752 , that will display the .smi captions.
