Spectrum Spectrum100-H HDMI to Component?

Is it possible to use a Spectrum Spectrum100-H box with an HDMI to component adapter to connect to my Colossus 2? I'm thinking of using something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083JTSV9J/?coliid=I12E2J8WOJZHWP&colid=3P7SES1NPXK5P&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_itt

Would a HDMI splitter work? Also, is this even necessary with this cable box?

It should work to convert the HDMI output to Component for capture. I used a similar device a while back to capture with an HDPVR.

You will need an HDMI splitter though to make the cable box's HDMI output happy.

No I think he means one or the other.

If you want to record directly from HDMI, you need something to remove the HDCP copy protection - most splitters will do this (even though they really aren’t supposed to).

If you convert to component, you don’t need to worry about HDCP since there is no copy protection with analog.

If you can get the hdmi working, I think it’s better (quality is better, less likely to pick up noise).

True statement about analog, but I've seen multiple HDMI->Component devices that honor HDCP, so they will NOT put out an analog signal if the source requires an HDCP handshake.

So a splitter might be necessary. The only way to know for sure is to test your devices. Manufacturers change their designs all the time - even converters and splitters that look the same on the outside can vary widely internally and how they behave.

I've ordered a "Techole" splitter, hopefully that works. There is a slight possibility they'll ship me boxes with component jacks, but that's very slight.

Yes, this is what I meant when I used the technical term "happy". With HDMI you most likely have to honor HDCP, which I did/do with my Spectrum Arris boxes. I have to use an HDMI splitter with each box that I'm recording from the HDMI output.

The Techole splitter works fine with my existing Samsung STB, looks like the problem is solved. I powered it from an unused USB port.

They sent me Arris boxes with HDMI and component. Nice, I thought they'd gone extict. Sticking with HDMI for the time being.
