Launch external programs
I searched, but found nothing...
Since sage is not modular and not extensible by the common joe w/o studio, is there a way to at least have Sage launch external programs? In this manner I can build an RSS reader (or whatever) and launch it from a button w/in Sage. Thanks... |

Yes it can. Studio makes this possible. You might want to request this from one of the better STV makes like Mlbdude or malore.

you can launch external applications with mlbdude's STV
but you may consider keeping MyHTPC though |

I think right now it is just for an extrenal DVD program
and you can do mame inside of Sage and I think you may be able to do a music application but not sure if mlbdude removed that feature or not |

So, MlbDude???
Is this possible ... ?? Like others, I am interested in being able to extend Sage and run an external .exe out of Sage. Sage is an awesome PVR, however is limited in the Music Jukebox area for now. I am looking for another solution (possibly Meedio) that can be kicked off from Sage and then when exited returns to Sage. So can I do this? If so, where would the menu item show up. And to avoid confusion, would there be a way to then turn of the Music Jukebox menu item? I keep hearing about this mame stuff. I have no clue what it is, what is capable of or if it can help here. I only keep hearing about it as it relates to games. Not being a gamer I am in the dark as to if it applies here. Thanks, T. |

As per the changelog for MlbDude2,
external_media_player=C\:\\Program Files\\Windows Media Player\\wmplayer.exe for video files, external_music_player=C\:\\Program Files\\Windows Media Player\\wmplayer.exe for music files. The music one will take over the Music Library menu item and just launch your external player. For the video files if you want to send paramters to the application (like ZoomPlayer), check out this thread http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthr...906#post50906. Cmd line parameters for DVD's currently does not work. |

Excellent! I'll give it a try ... At this point I am pretty familiar with the PVR side and am moving to the Music and Photo options. I have yet to put a DVD in my Sage system since I have a DVD in my entertainmant center already, so the options you gave me may help.
Thanks a lot ... T. |

Launch external programs is now possible with my new STV with built-in RSS reader and the ability to launch any external program from the user-customisable main menu:

Awesome Neilm ... Gotta check it out ... As with the others, thanks for your effort ... True techno-geeks appreciate this since we know it's all in your spare time ... whenever that is ...
I am really interested in being able to configure my own menu layout. Certain things at certain levels. Add external programs. Hide things I don't wwant to see. Hopefully your mod accomodates this ... Thanks again, T. |

Ok, this may be a stupid question, but I've never actually used Sage (I'm trying to find a everything-in-one front-end)
Will this give you the ability to have Sage scroll through the games of EMUs, (MAME, KAWAKS, SNES9x) much like you'd do with a regular EMU front-end? I hope so, cause it'll be the answer to my prayers. I guess worst case scenario you'd just have Sage launch the external application of a separate EMU front end. |
