Sage deleting unwatched programs when a FAVORITE is altered.

Strange thing that seemingly just started. W7, 32 bit. I removed two out of five channels which I had set a Favorite up to record from. When I did that, four episodes were deleted. Huh? Is that normal? Luckily I have Recuva installed, and got them back.
Any idea if this is normal, and if so, how does one edit a Favorite without deleting episodes?

When you say you removed 2 of the 5 channels, do you mean you turned them off in the applicable tuners, so they were no longer available, or that in your favorite setup you took those channels off the list of sources for that particular favorite? If the latter, when I've done that, I've had the recorded shows I'd recorded using those channels reclassified as non-favorites, and that caused the autodelete eligibility flag to be turned on. So I just reset those to manual recordings and all is well. I generally don't have autodelete happening, since I have plenty of space, don't limit any shows to a certain number, etc., but I also don't let any show I intend to keep get classified autodelete.

Even so, that shouldn't cause the shows to delete immediately unless you're seriously low on space or something else triggers an auto-deletion.

Backups are a fine thing.

I took them out of the channels in my Favorite Setup. I too thought that they may be reclassified, so I did a search for them, which turned up empty. I didn't realize the 'Autodelete' flag would automatically attach itself to a recording this way. And yes, whenever I set up a Favorite, I always turn off Autodelete, and set number of shows to "Keep At Most - All".
Any idea how to avoid this, if it's even possible?

I would say that whenever you make that kind of change, search for files with the autodelete flag and reset them to manual recordings. I use the web interface for this, since it shows you on its main page how many autodeletes you have. Click that link and you can easily check off any or all of them and then re-tag them as manual recordings. That should protect them from deletion. I don't know how I'd do that without the web interface, if you can't/don't want to run that, but what might work is, if you're using the Malore menus (I don't use Gemstone so don't know what's possible there) is to create a view with a filter on "not manual or fav" (it doesn't have an "autodelete" option). Maybe also select " not archived," since archived shows aren't autodeleted either. Then (again this is in Malore) you can bring up the group options. Among them is set/clear all Archived, and you could set them all archived. It doesn't offer an option to set all to manual recordings.

Or, if it's just one show at a time that this affects, you could skip all the filtering and just go to the group options for that show & set all archived. But the web interface is a much easier way to go for this task, and the only way I see to set all as manual recordings, if you don't want to make them archived. You can, though, set manual record status for individual recordings, but that's not practical if there are a lot of them.

This is the problem though, I ALWAYS set my Favorite’s to ‘Manual’ delete. Always. Something’s flaky...

But if you take off a given channel from the allowable ones for a favorite, that has the effect of un-favoriting any episodes that were recorded using the channel(s) you removed. Once Sage doesn't think of it as a favorite anymore, unless you mark it manual or or archived, it will be treated as auto-delete. That's been my experience - why it does it that way, I don't have a clue. I don't know if there's a hidden setting somewhere you can tweak to tell it not to do that, but I haven't found one.

I'm familiar with this behavior. I have some shows that have 2 favorites. Ancient Aliens for new episodes and repeats.... Dr. Who for new episodes and classic episodes on RetroTV.
