Aspect ratio off on one channel

Sometime in the last week I started noticing some of my programs were over filling the screen, so the picture is to big. I messed with the aspect ratio on the hd 300 and could not get it right. So tonight I checked a couple of more tv's and they are the same. 2 of them with hd200's and 2 of them with hd300's. After going to live tv and checking the channels I have found that I have 1 over the air channel that is displaying the wrong aspect ratio. Where do I change the recorded aspect ratio at for 1 channel?
System info in my sig.

Thanks
Wayne

Just done some more testing. If I go into the config window and look at the tuners, it shows both tuners with dual tuners in them. If Select the channel I have trouble with and do live view that channel looks fine and in each of the other 3 tuners it looks fine in VLC.
If I use the hd300 all of my shows from different channels look ok except the channel I am having trouble with is my local channel CBS 15.1 hd. It appears from what I can see something in sage is setting that channel to the wrong aspect ratio when it is called to record.
If I do a live view thru hd300 and sage the picture is to big.

Thanks
Wayne

After about 3 hours of testing last night, I am no further on this problem than I was a week ago.
Here is what I have done.
Looked thru logs ( even though I don't know what I am looking for )
Searched thru Sage properties looking for anything to do with aspect ratio
searched thru Sage client properties looking for anything to do with aspect ratio
I can't find anything any where tying aspect ratio to my channel 15.1 when it plays
I uninstalled all of my tuners and reinstalled them. Changed the merit order to use a different tuner. Still same results!

I cannot tune the aspect ratio on the HD300 and get the picture to display correctly. Once again it is only 1 channel that has problems.
I can play the mpeg file on my computer and it looks fine. I can also play the file thru sage ( watch recorded shows ) and it looks fine. But as soon as I play it thru the HD 300 or Hd 200 on other tv's they all do the same thing.
I even throwed a generic comskip ini file in there, as I was using a customized ini file. Still the same.

I am getting frustrated!!!! I record a lot of shows on CBS.

What controls the picture size in the HD300 / HD200 extenders? Is it sage tv or does the extender its self do the picture size. It almost acts to me that something in sage tv is telling the hd's to play this channel at ?? because they are all doing the same thing. I have selected fill, source and tried to create a new ar and cannot tune enough to make the picture shrink down to fit the screen.

Anyone got any ideas at all to try??

Thanks
Wayne

For OTA programs that are received by HDHR tuners, Sage simply records the data stream exactly as it's transmitted by the station, without changing resolution, aspect ratio, etc.

On the other hand, programs that are recorded from the HD-PVR may have their aspect ratio & resolution changed, according to the HD-PVR's capabilities/limitations. But this behavior isn't attributable to Sage itself.

Unless you're doing some sort of transcoding (using a Sage Plugin?), the only time I'm aware that Sage diddles with aspect ratio is at playback time, as selected by the HD200/300's remote via the Aspect button. Note that such a change doesn't affect the recorded file in any way; it only affects that playback instance on that particular HDx00.

Typically the aspect ratio defaults to Source each time playback is started, but the AR **can** be changed via the remote and this change can be made "sticky" (see the HD200/300 User's Manual). I've done this for my cable system which offers only SD content, since I want the picture to always fill the screen without having to manually select Wide over and over.

Is it possible to use one of your TVs (directly attached to the signal source) to view CBS ch 15.1? Does the picture look ok? The TV probably has some menu or Info screen that can be used to determine the station's video properties (aspect ratio, interlace, etc). Comparing that info to some other non-problematic channel might provide some insight.

EDIT: Select a recording and then press/click Info to show what resolution & aspect ratio the program was recorded at. What's being reported for the problematic recordings?

I have been looking at several shows, The problem started the first week of December.
It is only one channel having the problem.
Tonight I done a sage tv live view thru my computer monitor on the server and the picture looks fine. I then went to my hd300 recordings and selected the same program that is playing fine on my monitor and and it is way oversized, way to wide. As the show is playing, I go to options and change the different aspect ratios and nothing brings it even close to the right size. Yet I can stop that show and go to another show from a different network and it is fine.
Once again it is only 1 channel that has the problem. It is the same on all of my hd 300 and 200's. Since it is on all of my extenders, It has to be a problem in sage, I would think. Tonight I updated the HDHR tuner software with no difference.

The OTA picture is fine on my tv.

There is nothing I can find in the tv menu's to tell me about the video. All I can find is signal data.

I am wondering about doing a sage reinstall. Does anyone know if I can do another install over the top of sage without screwing things up?

Thanks

At one time there was a plugin that automatically adjusted the aspect ratio based on channel or program name I think (I never used it, but I think it was called Automatic Aspect Ratio Switcher or something like that). Any chance you have this plugin installed?

Yes, I installed that plugin, But I still cannot get the picture resized to the right size on the channel 15.1. It also looks like it does one extender only and I did not try it on the others as it did not work on the first one.
Even when using the remote and trying to change the aspect ratio with the aspect button the picture size will not change. When I play another show that has been recorded on a good channel, the aspect button changes the size just fine on the good recordings.

I was wondering if the plugin was maybe causing the problem. Was it installed before or after this problem started?

I installed it after the problem started hoping I could correct the problem by installing plugin.

What's the proper aspect ratio for these recordings? Is this a 4:3 aspect show that is being played back at 16:9?

Have you tried performing another channel scan in your HDHR?

The channel with the problem is over the air local cbs channel. The channel is HD 16x9 and looks great on my HD tv's.
I just opened the setup of the tuners and it wanted to do a firmware update, and I left it go ahead and do that and after that I scanned the channels on all 4 tuners.
Still have the same problem.

Fresh install of V9 has fixed the problem. Everything looks in its proper aspect ratio.
