HD aspect ratio

I have Sage on a PC output through an S-Video to a 16x9 HDTV. There is currently no other way for me to hook the two together.

When I configure the UI on Sage (the default one) to fill the screen and set the overscan, the UI fits on the screen perfectly.

All of the recordings, however, show a blank area on the top and bottom of the screen. I have a "FILL" mode on my TV which stretches the picture vertically and then I can see the video full size, but then I lose the UI at the bottom and the top.

In "setup->detailed setup->multimedia" I have tried all of the options for aspect ratio mode, aspect ratio settings, and overscan looks good. I tried to stretch the vertical to 133% on 'aspect ratio settings' but that did not have any effect.

I would like to have the hd content fill the screen and also be able to see the full UI. Is this a limitation of the s-video input, or is there a setting I can change?

In the configuration settings for Sage, there is an option to set your display aspect ratio.

Go to set up > run config wizard >Set the general and user interface options - first is language, 2nd is display aspect ratio.

Set it to 16:9 or until the circle is round.

You may have to go back and set your overscan settings - setup > Detail setup >Multimedia >Overscan settings

Just to be clear, what you're getting from that S-Video connection is neither HD nor 16x9. It's downconverted and letterboxed to 4x3 SD, because that's all S-Video can support.

Read this post for details on how (and why) to set up aspect ratio modes to compensate.
