Aspect Ratio
I just made the leap to an HD TV and I have a question about aspect ratios.
The TV is 50 inch 720p plasma. I hooked it up via component, Nvidia detected the TV and I selected 720p. The Sage menus look great, I can finally read them at a distance, and fill the screen. My question is about about SD content viewed though Sage. When I play SD material with the aspect ratio set to source I get black bars on the side like I would expect. Fill is pretty much the same thing and 16 x 9 gives me a smallish picture in 16 x 9 ratio but with bars on all 4 sides. Is this how it is supposed to work? I assumed that one (16x9 specifically) of the settings would use the entire screen and just crop/stretch the image. I tried to adjust the Aspect Ratio percentage of 16x9 but it seems to go ignored sometimes and others it would behave strangely. For instance I set Hor/Ver each at 150%, the picture zoomed but the black bars got bigger as well. So I ended up with a zoomed image in a smaller window. I'm using 6.0.14 The TV (toshiba 50hp16) has an aspect ratio button, but it doesn't work becasue the PC is already sending a 720p signal. |

Thanks that's good info. So if Fill is supposed to fill the screen for all content (except letterboxed SD shows) I guess it isn't working all the time for me.
I have to use Fill for HD shows as Source ends up letter boxed and 16x9 is pillar boxed. Fill 'fills' the screen as expected for HD material but leaves SD pillar boxed. My desktop resoution is 1280 X 720, native resolution for my display is 1366x768. |

I think I figured out why this is happening. I changed the videobackground color to grey but the pillars were still black.
So I opened the SD files in WMP they are 720 x 480. It looks like the black bars are part of the recording. |

if you're using purevideo decoder set it to raw video rather than content default and it will stretch the video to fill the screen.
if you use vga you will be able to select the native 1366x768 resolution. |
