Gemstone is a completely separate STV, that is built off of the core STV. The current Gemstone release IS built of the 9.0.12.2 STV file. I was confused when you listed 'Base STV', and totally forgot to even ask if that was in Gemstone. You can do all your config and such, and then Load Gemstone UI from the main menu when you are done to get back into it.

This is one the quirks with how gemstone was built. It wasn't as much an issue when gemstone was being developed, because changes to gemstone were coming a LOT more often than changes to the base STV. I don't know if JusJoken is up to pushing out an updated release of Gemstone or not. He did for the sdepg changes, but that was a special case.
There have been additional changes to the STV in regards to SDEPG, so another release might be a good idea. There is mention of this kind of problem in the wiki, but unfortunately most people don't discover what it means until they run into this.

This is actually my favorite thing about SageTV being open source; there's a chance I can fix problems. I also enjoy being able to tell my wife, "I did that."

I make no promises on timing

If you want to make a change that is only available in the default core STV, then go into detailed setup, advanced and either REVERT or set Full UI and select the SageTV7 xml. Then make the change and then go back to gemstone...there should be a main menu item to do that or again go into detailed setup and manually select gemstone.xml.

It's rather painless.

No... there's nothing wrong with just doing out to the default, and making your settings changes, and then going right back into gemstone.

Okay, I updated Java and now have 21 days of scheduling.

However, I now have a new problem. As viewed on the TV (HD300), the image is too large... the image goes outside the screen. I am unsure what that is called -- Aspect Ratio, Screen Resolution, or some such.

I had the same thing happen the first time use after upgraded to v9 and I reset it some way that I now forget. I have spent an hour now trying to find a solution.

I have tried "Toggle Full Screen" but the screen goes black and the Remote doesn't seem to do anything. The only way to get back is to shut down HD300 and restart -- even by unplugging, waiting a minute, and plugging back in. It returns with the same resolution issue. I have even ran the "Repair" setup again.

How do I change the image size?

Do you mean resolution, overscan or something else?

Yeah, that is what I meant by, "I am unsure what that is called." I don't know what "Overscan" is.

Anyway, see the attached image. Notice how the Image (Screen?) extends past the right and left edge of the screen.

Detailed Setup => Multimedia => Overscan Settings

Then you will adjust for the upper left corner and lower right corners

That doesn't help. All that does is move the whole image right/left/bottom/top. In other words. I can move the image to the right until the left side is right but that only put more on the right off-screen.

I need to make the image smaller so that the whole thing fits on-screen.

that will do it....
Do so that the upper left is set and you see the colored corner you can see, then click/select the Done - Top Left

Then you adjust the Bottom Right so that you can see the colored corner where you want the click/select the Done - Bottom Right

This resizes the Menu screens. It is a 2 step process,

Okay, <blush> This is not a SageTV issue. It is caused by my Receiver -- I run everything (Sage, Bluray, Roku, etc.) through it. Because I was concentrated on SageTV, I didn't notice that the screen size issue ran through all of those devices. (But not the TV itself.)

Further on the downside... why the Receiver did that and how to fix it are beyond me.

I apologize for the interruption.
