Deleting Recorded Copies Of Favorites: Will They Be Re-Recorded
One of my Favorites is TED Talks.
I've got a *lot* of TED Talks recorded - way more than I can view in the forseeable future. But my RecordedTV drives are getting full and I would like to do some house cleaning. The Question: If I delete all those TED Talks, but leave the Favorite in effect, are they gone forever? Or will SageTV record them again if/when they are shown again? Put another way, does the Sage DB remember shows that have been deleted?

You need to delete them, and when asked, choose that they were the wrong recording.

It depends...
First, before deleting you must make sure the recording is not marked watched. Sage will never record a favourite that's been previously marked watched. Now if the favourite is set to first runs and reruns then you're good to go, if the deleted recording reairs, Sage will record it. But if the favourite is set to record first runs only then you may run into problems. When Sage first recorded the airing it was a first run, but when it reairs, well, it probably won't be marked as a first run anymore so your favourite will ignore it. So as long as you're careful of that then you should be able to make Sage rerecord deleted favs.

I always wondered what that option on the Delete dialog meant...
Thanks! Edit: Selecting "Wrong Recording", am I still good in light of Slugger's observations? Or do I still need to revisit "First Run" options? Seems like I would be asking for duplicate recordings in the future if I told the Favorite to record other than first runs...

A recording marked as "wrong recording" for a fav that only records first runs will not record a future airing if that airing is not also marked first run, period. In other words, a first run fav rule is not likely to pick up reairings of deleted favs (unless the reairing occurs within 2-3 weeks of the original airing, such that it's still marked as a first run by Sage core).

Plus there is no real downside to setting it to first runs and re-runs. Anything you marked as watched and deleted won't be re-recorded and anything you don't have recorded or marked as watched will record.
Many of my favorites are set for 1st and re-runs. There are some channels/shows that aren't very good about their 1st run flags. Some miss putting them on new episodes once in a while, and others leave the 1st run flag on there for a loooooooooooong time.
