Yeah, that's a good idea.
I have a "downloads" folder where I keep copies of every installer I ever run. I make sub folders for each software company (Adobe, Microsoft, Hauppauge, etc.), and then sub folders inside those for each product. I copy everything there, including installation CDs, so I don't have to worry about losing them. I also keep copies of licenses or keys right there with the installers. Same goes for special config files or installation instructions.
Finally, I make sure my Downloads folder gets backed up regularly.
