V9 Upgrade Questions

I plan to attempt this this weekend. Currently V7 on Win7 server, with HD200s as clients. Plan is as follows....
0) Back up entire machine
1) Run windows update.
2) Update Java to latest.
3) Upgrade
4) Evaluate
then later
5) Change EPG
Reboots in between all.

Q1) Is the Java update prudent? (I've seen some questioning whether Java 8 is a good idea or not - I routinely ignore the Java request to update on the sage)
Q2) I use the SageTV web interface quite a bit.

Sage Webserver version 2.42

The sage Web Server was written by nielm, jreichen and emok with hints from various people on the Forums!
Does it come along for the ride? Or is a whole new world?
Q3) Any danger to channel logos?
Q4) I have HD-Home Run Dual (2) tuners. Will I be re-scanning and re-scratching my head about channel numbers and subchannels?

Definitely upgrade to Java. The Web UI will work - the only thing that doesn't seem to work is the mobile web UI, but you can use the normal web UI in a phone web browser.

Was wondering the same thing: I'm getting java errors when I click on the listing of "auto delete" programs (a number which keeps rising due to a proliferatin of "no data" programs). WIll Java 8 fix that? Is there a way to back up my current Java for possible restoration if java 8 breaks more than it fixes?

And so it starts.
Updated to Java 8.
Restart.
Checked to see if SageTV service was running by launching the service control applet. Get error about unable to retreive / determine because JVM 1.4 (or similar) was not installed.

OK Fine

Checked that "SageTV" service was stopped via 'services.msc' at run box. (it wasn't).
Started V9 install. (v9.1.2.662). Into it I get this error...

I return to services.msc to see if anything 'sagetv-ey' is left hanging around. Don't See it.
Try 'Retry' nothin'
Try Ignore...another warning...different file. Clicked about 10 times...installation successful.

Just a guess...should have right clicked the install and 'run as admin' User is admin but sometimes windows pulls crap like this.

Nope. Attempting repair after launching the install 'run as admin' same thing happens.

Copy wiz.bin and sagetv.properties back....

I see that my quicklaunch shortcut for the SageTVservicecontrol.exe doesn't work any more. Target is gone. OK.
Try the desktop icon for SageTV 9.

Get this....

I'm reverting - to at least get the nightly news.

Any help / insights appreciated.

Are you running win7 sp1? That would be important

Also, ensure Java 8 installed properly...remove all Java versions and install Java 8 32 bit

I didn't update Java (though it is now bugging me to do so), so am still on 7. The 7-to-9 update worked. Before doing that update, I completely exited sage, and with the service control stopped & disabled the server, turned off "service recovery" too. After the update, turned all that back on.

I had some other issues that caused me to revert to 7; I just reinstalled 9 tonight. The install went ok; waiting to make sure the problems that caused me to revert don't reoccur....

The installer recommended nuking older install. 1.4 and 1.7 I think were listed so I did.

Did you do the windows update thing? It seems most the time when things aren't registering or DLL's a not showing, it's because windows 7 hasn't been updated all the way. If you haven't updated in quite some time, it will take multiple passes through windows update to get everything.

Edit:
Box is 64 bit - so not sure why the x86 is there....I'm uninstalling that. And older 2010s that are present And running the install from the link in the thread you linked.
Edit 2:
A comedy of errors...after doing that so the only C++ redistributable installed is...

now the SageTV server is MIA according to HS200s. So..I'm restoring the image I made after completing windows update. Then I'll just run the V9 upgrade installer and see what happens.

Today I did Windows updates until there was nothing left.

V9 Upgrade Install completed without issue after I restored the image I made after updating windows.

I forgot to copy sage properties and wiz.bin back before launching V9 - so I am rinsing and repeating.

Fingers crossed.

V9 upgrade is done.
So long as SageTV is running on the server the HD200s can connect.

When trying to enable the service....

Also, what is the URL for the web server? This was the old one...
http://192.168.1.103:8080/sage/Home
I suppose I changed the port for some reason many, many years ago.
I'd like to trigger a guide update since adding my Schedules direct info in there.

Try running the installer again, this time choose 'repair'.

That URL should not have changed. I have not updated the Web UI in quite a while and that is still the URL that works for my server.

That seems to have worked. Server starts as a service now.

I think the web server did not 'come along for the ride' after the upgrade. Zero plugins are installed (excepting Opus' weather). And I have Zero favorites when I look into facorutes manager.

I did copy SageTV folder to the desktop before doing the upgrade and I'm pretty sure I copied sage.properties and wiz.bin back into the working SageTV folder before I launched V9.

I'm gonna snapshot the system now before mucking around more. I might actually just re-add the favorites manually to delete the stale stuff.
