Cable Boxes Turn Off
I was wondering if anyone has a solution to this problem. Every now and then one of my Verizon Fios cable boxes will turn off. I suspect it's when Verizon pushes out an update because I have the sleep function disabled on all of them. I tune channels using the FireWire plugin so if one of the first tuners cable boxes turn off, my tuning is out of wack for the other 3. It would be nice if there was a way to check if the box is on before it starts tuning. Any tips?

I had similar problems with my Uverse STBs. They would go to sleep after 4 hours and trip up on new recordings. There was a STB Keepalive plugin at one time. I went the route of setting up a Windows task every 4 hours to fire my GENTUNER script with the "OK" command. In Linux I set up a cron job for the same purpose.

This can also depend on the nature of your boxes. Can they be turned on by any button press? If not you may have to send a power command, then, hopefully, your box has a discrete power on command rather than just a power toggle which could cause you to mistakenly turn off the box.

I can't find any handy links at the moment, but when I had Dish, the boxes would go to sleep overnight. Sage has a built in pre/post tune command option, and I setup that to hit menu or whatever would wake the box, as a pre-tune command.

Can you elaborate on this pre/post tune command and how I can learn more about it? I'm assuming you mean that it issues some kind of command to the STB before tuning a channel but how do I activate that?

Thanks - I will try that and I think it will resolve the problem.
