SageTV9 Server / SageTV7 Network Encoder or SageTV7 Windows Client

1. Currently I have a SageTV7 Server that uses another SageTV7 Server as a Network encoder.

Code:
SageTV 7 Server <-----> SageTV 7 Server Network Encoder
(main Server) <-----> (network encoder - slave)
If I upgrade the Server acting as a network encoder to SageTV 9 will this continue to work?

Code:
SageTV 7 Server <-----> SageTV 9 Server Network Encoder
(main Server) <-----> (network encoder - slave)
I want to take my upgrade in steps...

2. Similarly - if I have SageTV 7 windows clients - can they operate against a SageTV 9 Server without upgrading first?

Code:
SageTV 9 Server <-----> SageTV 7 Windows client

The client versions will have to match the server. The encoder appeared like it might work but I only did a quick test so I could easily be wrong.

Network encoders are pretty universally 'working' between v4+. So you can mix them up version wise okay. As stated, the Client and Server need to match though.

Thanks for the info - that lets me at least update the network encoder independently.

I only have a couple windows clients - rest are HD300s.

Will report back results.

It appears the SageTV 7 Server does not talk to the Sage 9 Network encoder.... when trying to tune:

In the SagetTV 9 Server there are no entries at all logged for the tuner request.

Please advise.

Problem fixed.

Now there is another issue - using the BM3000-HDMI requires the USB-UIRT tuner and that will not allow itself to be selected with a network encoder that is remote... !

Needs a fix .....

Use OpenDCT and look for a way to control usbuirt and send the command with the tunecommand EXE of the tuner within OpenDCT. Something similar is how my BM3000-HDMI works, however I send the tune in command via web request (its a DTV DVR which has a HTTP API)

The start of the video source is supposed to be sent to the remote SageTV Server acting as a Network Encoder. The remote SageTV Server is the one that tunes and gets the local video source (local to the remote SageTV Server).

This works perfectly with other sources e.g. HDPVR with USB-UIRT

The problem here is the SageTV Server is not getting the video stream from the remote SageTV Server acting as a Network Encoder. Instead it is getting video directly from OpenDCT (it should not). This is NOT following the design of the SageTV Network Encoder (which has previously always worked).

This thread refers to a command line app for USB-UIRT:

Any one have this? Can someone make this into a remotely invokable executable?

http://www.etcwiki.org/wiki/Uutx.exe...e_for_usb-uirt

Is it possible to provide build a version of this that:

1. supports multiple zones (like in SageTV usage of USB-UIRT)
2. can be invoked remotely

Or how about the ability to invoke a tuningPlugin as a REST endpoint:

tuningPluginName Channel=channel#

For .ir the Tuning Plugin can be configured to use different .ir files for each zone (as it is done today in USB-UIRT).

This would be simply a REST invocation of the tuningPlugin by Name passing the channel...
