Unhappy OpenDCT not finding HDHomeRun Tunners

Here is what I did:

Stopped and disabled SageDCT
Stopped SageTV Service
Made Backup Copy of Sage.properties and Wiz.bin.
Installed OpenDCT
Ran "OpenDCT Run as Console".
CTRL-C on OpenDCT after UPnP discovery thread has stopped message.
Ran "OpenDCT Start Service"
changed network_encoder_discovery=false to true.
Started SageTV Service
Started SageTV
Setup>Setup Video Sources>Add New Source.

The only Video sources I see are the SageDCT tuners, nothing from OpenDCT

What am I doing wrong?

Just for the heck of it, restart the computer if you haven't already, and give it another shot.

You do have all the latest HDhomerun software installed?

Already tried restarting the computer with no luck.

Actually the HDHomeRun software is from 2014 since I was using SageDCT. Do you think that is it?

Thanks,
John

PHP Code:
sagetv.device.global.required_devices_loaded_count=
Needs to be changed to the number of tuners you expect opendct to find.

You may also need to increase the timeout (next line down) from 30000ms to 60000ms or even 90000ms if the shorter times don't seem to work.

My first thought is firewall issues. Are you running anything other than the Windows firewall? If not, you might be able to help us out best by posting your opendct.log file. The logs should show if there are any issues with getting the right network adapters, bad replies, etc.

It looks like they are not responding to /sys/hwmodel. I personally would try upgrading the firmware.

I upgraded the firmware to the latest release.

I also discovered that the Norton Security Suite would not start, so I removed it.

SageTV was then able to find the new tuners. I ran a test of 6 recording simultaneously.

Works great!!!

Thanks for all of the help and support!

John

Same problem I'm running Windows 7 and using SageTV 7 trying to prepare for 9. The hdhr firmware has been upgraded on works standalone, but after that upgrade and java runtime upgrade, when I run the sagedct service with opendct disabled, the tuners are shown as not functioning. When I disable sagedct and start opendct, the log seems to find the tuners fine, but not in SageTV. My opendct log is attached. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't see SageTV performing a discovery in the logs. If you made the change to allow v7 to discover network encoders, all you should need to do is restart the SageTV service and see if it pulls them in now.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "discover network encoders". If you mean network_encoder_discovery=true, I have done that. I have a single computer/client and until now, haven't used the service. The hdhr is connected via the network adapter to a local 169.254 ip address, not a router.

That's correct about the network_encoder_discovery property. OpenDCT definitely sees the HDHomeRun. SageTV did not discover OpenDCT on startup. If you're not using the SageTV service, then all you should need to do is close the SageTV client and then re-open it. Also after closing the SageTV client, double-check that network_encoder_discovery is still true.

With or without the service, the client doesn't see the dct tuners. I checked while the client was loaded, and network_encoder_discovery was still true. Can I convert the sagedct mmc entries to opendct somehow?

[BUMP] Any ideas as to why the client isn't seeing openDCT? Anything I can try?

The only setting that would prevent SageTV from trying to discover OpenDCT is set correctly, so why SageTV isn't finding OpenDCT is a bit of a mystery. The only thought I have left is a potential defect in how SageTV does its discovery. It uses 255.255.255.255 which doesn't guarantee that it will hit any network interface other than the primary one. If you have more than one network adapter, try disabling all but one.

Is this setup not connected to the internet in any way? the 169.254.x.x address implies that there is no DHCP server on the network, so windows is just making up an IP address. It's likely this is causing your issue, as well as quite a few others quite possibly.

Thanks for the idea, but the problem is now moot. I started fresh with SageTV9, and it found the tuners without a hitch. Everything is working fine now, and SageTV7 is gone.

Opendct won't run in console

I just installed opendct and ran it in console mode per instructions. I forgot one step so didn't get a successful conclusion. I uninstalled opendct and all remaining stuff related to it and then reinstalled. Now I can't get it to run in console. A window comes up and several lines of code zip by and then it asks me to press any key and closes the console.

Any ideas?

I'm running it under the latest windows 10.

Don't worry about console mode. Just start the service, then start SageTV.
