Sage stopped scheduling recordings

Hi guys

I am still running Sage v7. And recently sage just stopped scheduling recordings. It all plays back just fine, but none of the favourites are being flagged for recording. The tv guide data is all good.

It seems I can schedule a manual recording - meaning I can go to the guide data and say record this show.

Does anybody have a suggestion of what I can do to get it working again?

Do you think that deleting the video sources and recreating them will work? Or deleting the channel data? I don't really think that will work since I can record a show based on the guide data.

I think my next step is to delete wiz.bin and starting again.

Does that seem like a reasonable next step?

Thanks
Greg

Have you tried deleting a favorite and then entering it again?

Yea tonight I tried a number of things:

I tried deleting 3 of the 4 video sources and adding them again. two of them share a channel lineup, which I re-added.

I tried moving back to a 2 year old wiz.bin file (that worked at the time).

I tried deleting most of my favourites.

I added new favourites.

Nothing I do will get the scheduler to schedule recordings. I can add a new favourite and I see it go bold in the EPG, but it doesn't flag it as about to be recorded. The only way I can get a recording to happen is to say Record Now.

So at this point I have tried just about all I can think of. I guess I could delete all the video sources and re-add them.
I could delete all the favourites and re-add them.

the next step would be a complete re-install. I am not even sure I can re-install v7. I will have to look around the forum to see if there are instructions for that.

Why can't you just do a dirty re-install instead of a clean re-install like some used to do with windows when it would screw up in the past.

Basically all it is is re-download version 7 of Sage TV and reinstall the program without removing the old version.

If I remember right it will ask you if you want to repair your copy of sage tv and you just answer yes.

It would save you from deleting the wiz.bin file and test whether the problem is with some missing file in SageTV if that fixes it or the problem being in your Wizbin file like you suggested.

Don't forget to check your Sage TV Service control to make sure it's working too as it sounds like something may be wonky with it. Especially if your programs are not recording unless you choose record now.

You can check it by opening up your system services menu and manually check to see if its running instead of relying on the program that comes with sage tv that controls the services just to be doubly sure its working

I have reinstalled v7 many/many/many times.

Here is what I would suggest:
  1. copy sagetv directory somewhere safe.
  2. uninstall sagetv.
  3. delete the remaining sagetv install directory and files
  4. install sagetv again
  5. setup a tuner again and see if you can schedule a show.
  6. if it does schedule - finish setting up any remaining tuners
  7. copy back the wiz.bin from your copied directory
  8. if you have shows scheduled after this you should be good to go except maybe to install the plugins you want.
  9. if after copying back the wiz.bin you get no scheduled shows again then you know it is something in wiz.bin that is causing it so delete it and reenter all of your favorite again - or use your older backup to get back some watched status and favorites since I believe you said it worked from your old backup.

I had a similar issue a few months ago. If I restarted it would schedule the favorites, but it would not schedule again until I restarted.

The way I fixed it was to export data using the web interface, delete win.biz then import data. The directions I followed were here:
