movies from network drive pause momentarily

Hey all,
I've got Sage7 on a windows 7 machine. Haven't changed anything (well, except for having to do a fresh reinstall of the system a little bit ago).

Anyway, a couple days ago we noticed that movies from our server (both DVD and blu-rays) pause for about a half second every 30 seconds or so. The audio doesn't seem to hesitate, just the video.

I saw a post about maybe it was windows defender, so I excluded the Sage directory, but that didn't seem to stop it.

Any ideas?

I play shows from a NAS all of the time. It depends a lot on your network path to the drive.

For example my NAS is located directly next to my SageTV server. The NAS, SageTV and HDHomeRun tuners are all on a separate switch. And I have never had a problem.

What type of Network Drive are you using? What is the network path?

It could also be signs of a drive failing, and it has to reread a few times to get the data without error.

@NetworkGuy: Network is pretty simple. Server and computer both have gigabit cards. between them is a single D-Link gigabit switch. Cable run from server to switch is maybe 2 ft. From switch to media computer the cable is maybe 20-30ft of cable winding its way through the wall.

@ Fuzzy: Yeah, I had thought of a hard drive flaking out.

It's a new phenomena. No changes to the network. I was thinking maybe:
1: Bad network driver (after a windows update or something)
2: Bad video driver (again, maybe after an update)
3: hard drive going bad

One more update. After I tried messing with windows defender by excluding the SageTV folder, I also excluded sagetv.exe from real time monitoring. After that the Blu-rays stopped hesitating.

Ahhh, but the Blu-rays are actually on a different hard drive than the DVDs. I've got to attach a monitor, mouse and kbd to it to update it to win10. Maybe when it POSTs I'll see a SAFE error.

If anyone has any other ideas, please feel free to chime in. I'll post an update after more troubleshooting.

Have you tried monitoring CPU and Network on the server while you are having the problem? Could be another program / service that is using the CPU cycles or the bandwidth.
