Which would you choose

Comcast yesterday turned on the CC flags on starz and encore. I know I should be glad I had them for as long as I did as copy freely but still miss using the cable card to record my shows. So here is the question which hd pvr would you guys choose Amazon has all three with in a close price range. Running windows 7 64 bit sage 7.

HD PVR 1212
HD PVR 2 1512 with blaster.
HD PVR 2 Gaming

Thanks for your opinions in advance.

I don't think you want the gaming version for use with SageTV.

Either of the other 2 should work fine.

IMHO - I wouldn't use the IR blaster that comes with the HD PVR. I would get a third party IR Blaster for channel changing. Unfortunately since you're using an x64 OS, firewire channel changing isn't an option.

Do you use HD300 extenders to watch live TV?

I understand the HDPVR2's seem to have issues with this.

Also, the 5.1 audio support with the HDPVR2s is spotty at best.

I guess my question is this. With the 1515 you are future proving yourself since component out puts seem to be going away. I could live without 5.1 audio since I hardly turn on the surround sound. I would prefer the better video quality. Im also worried about reboots SHS said he hardly reboots the 1515. Is anybody here using the 1515 and the 1212 which do you think is better. Thank You again

I'd go with the 1212. You'll always be able to capture over component and with digital audio. You can get converters that will convert HDMI to component and/or split audio to SPDIF. Plus, the 1212 works flawlessly with Sage. A good, hi-res 720p or 1080i capture is still very acceptable ...

I would also say 1212, set the bit rate to the max, set the cable box to output native format and I would recommend using the USB-UIRT for tuning. I did this a few months ago when FX/NGC set CCI's on Verizon FIOS. Looks really good - can't really tell that it's not cablecard. I also have a 1512 that I don't use because of all the issues. With HDMI capture you also have to put a "splitter" in the middle.

because the 1212 was current tech that worked when Sage stopped development, I'd go with it. I have two, one as a spare. Also, check eBay and Craigslist. Gamers bought a load of them, then updated. I got one in perfect shape for $40 I think. And I use the IRblaster with a Colossus card and it's never given me a problem.
