Where do we suggest Gemstone issues/enhancements?
Given that Gemstone is in active development is there a place where we can post issues or enhancements - like Github? Or should we start a thread here?

Great.
What about Phoenix Fanart issues. One example is not being able to handle Fanart for two movies with the same name but different years. It always uses the same Fanart for two movies with the same title. Can Gemstone handle movie groupings today, like James Bond, Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc? This would be kind of like having subfolders. Having Gemstone be more mouse friendly would be good too. I noticed when I was trying out the TV Flows that the default UI TV flow work with a mouse but Gemstone did not. A related issue could be making the UI touch friendly for clients like Android and iOS, or even for Windows tablets.

Have you ever looked into the issue of Fanart not displaying for some movies? I saw this again this week when I installed V9 and transferred over my video files on a new server. I think there are a few threads in this forum about the issue.
I am not 100% sure that it isn't a Phoenix issue as the problematic movies did not have Fanart show up in BMT until I manually selected a poster jpg file as default. So for some reason Phoenix doesn't seem to load the file on its own.

I've mentioned this issue before, but I'll do it again here. Let me know if you've already worked on this one, otherwise I'll put it on the github page.
I've always had problems with banners reliably appearing in the Simplified Flow. Sometimes it helps to manually select a different banner in the fanart manager. Sometimes it helps to rebuild the cache. But no matter what I do I always have some shows with banners that will simply now appear. I've seen other reports about this, so I know I'm not the only one. Do you think this is a Gemstone issue or a Phoenix issue? Obviously it would be great to figure out what's causing the banner to not appear. But, in addition to that, it would really be great if the Simplified Flow were designed so that the show name appears "under" the banner. In normal operation, the banner would hide the text, but if there's a problem displaying the banner, at least the text name would appear. |

I almost never have issues with banners but I do have issues with movie posters.

Out of curiosity, do you use the simplified flow? That's where I see the problems. I have problems with about 5% of shows.

Are these issues on clients or extenders

Extenders. I don't have any clients.

I am guessing that at least with the problem that I have that it is more of a Phoenix problem then a Gemstone problem.
The reason I say that is that the problem can generally be fixed by going into BMT and just picking a poster and setting it as default Fanart. When I first go into the Metadata and Fanart pages for these "problem" mediafiles there is no Fanart shown in the top right corner of BMT - it just shows the generic movie reel or whatever. But when I go into the Fanart screen of BMT is displays all of the Fanart files. It appears that for some reason nothing is set as default so no poster is associated with the mediafile. But clicking "Set Default" immediately causes the Fanart to show up in the top right corner. The other way to fix this is going into Fanart manager from the Sage UI. Do you guys see the same?

That's precisely what I see. I detailed it further here. I'm pretty sure the Phoenix gurus are aware of it, though. I'd be happy to create an issue someplace if they want.

I am wondering if there is some code that we could write that would look something like this:
Code:
If DefaultFanartFile is Null Then Set DefaultFanartFIle = First File in Posters Folder

I'm guessing the issue is significantly more complex than that. If you think about it for a second, the fanart is obviously supposed to be there once it has been downloaded, but that's not happening for some reason. So, the equivalent of your code example is surely already in the existing code... it's just not working properly in all instances.
I have faith it'll be fixed, but it's probably only going to happen in conjunction with Gemstone2, even if the problem doesn't specifically exist there. Then, I'll be forced to upgrade to the OSS version of Sage. I'm okay with that, though.

But the more info gathered the better as i know i fixed a major fanart issue but it would not have been seen in bmt as it affected the gemstone cache. so i need to keep looking but its not recreatable yet. |

Hopefully when I get back to Gemstone2 and get a beta out then we will see if I have resolved the Gemstone part. If there is a repeatable case occurring seen in BMT, then you may want to enable debug logging in BMT and upload the logs so we can check it out. k |
