Recording Schedule: Where Stored ?
I just had some sort of problem on my Data drive in which several apps' data got messed up - among them SageTV's.
Restored from the previous nite's backup, but after the restore I found that I had lost my OTA Channel Linup - so I recreated that manually. Now it has been more than 24 hours and Program Guide is still virtually emplty. Couple listings for 12.2 and 12.3, but that's it. Also, Recording Schedule is coming up empty. Does anybody know where Recording Schedule and Channel Lineup are stored ? If all were in Wiz.bin, then I'll start going through older backups and try to find one that fits.... If not.... ?

My problems began only yesterday - but those messages started on 10/12. I am guessing that "EPG server" is something out there in the cloud. That being true, I have to wonder if my little data problem was coincident with the "EPG server" also having a problem and my EPG list would have become empty over time. ?? On my Sage's setup for my SiliconDust tuners, I was going to try to change "EPG Lineup" from "Use US, Canada, or XMLTV Guide Data with this Source" to "Use tvtv Services Guide Data with this Source". But after I went through the registration screens, "Please select your tvtv Services Host:" came up blank. Oh well....

That seems to be about the time they locked up the EPG servers, wasn't it? Sounds like you account wasn't included. There are instructions somewhere to get it opened up. That or try a nearby zip code.

Some of the lineups changed too I think, you might just have to search again.

I see the link Stranger89's sig line about entering it for SageTV 9 (Open Source)... but that seems like a different animal from my v7.x. Does my account not being included fit with the fact that I am getting 12.1, 12.2, and 12.3 - but nothing else - in the Program Guide ? I'm thinking maybe SageTV falls back to some magic where they can extract info from the OTA stream if the stream contains it.... and maybe Channel 12 plays that game and others do not....

Specified a totally different zip code, got a bunch of list choices that made no sense to me at all. Then backed up and went back to my real zip code. The EPG list choices did not include "Philadelphia - Digital Broadcast", which I had been using for at least several years..... but it *did* include something called "Digital Broadcast_19301"...... I chose "Digital Broadcast_19301" and the Program Guide is now fully populated. I guess that, somehow, it had been limping along since the change.... or maybe the Program Guide had been pre-populated far enough out that I had not seen the lack of entries yet.... and my little data drive debacle and subsequent need to totally re-acquire the EPG gave me the nearly-empty Program Guide.... once more Correlation <> Causation.... Bottom Line: You nailed it with the EPG list names having been changed. Thanks!

My guess is, the once you download the lineup, SageTV knows the EPG ID for each station in your lineup. So even if the lineup itself goes away, if that EPG ID still exists, Sage can still get the data for it. So you were probably fine since I don't think Z2I remove the channels, just changed a bunch of lineups. So when you restored, Sage was probably unable to download the guide channels, to be able to get the guide data.

To answer your earlier question, yes the EPG server is "in the cloud" and there have been a lot of posts over the past year from people indicating that it had gone down temporarily and had to be fixed several times. Sage (now Google) contracts with another company (Zap2It) to get the EPG data and make it available. From time to time Zap2It has changed its line-up info and that is probably what has caused the problem you saw. The Zap2It data is not free. Sage had to pay to license it and make it available to Sage customers. With Sage going open source, they made arrangements so that people with existing licenses could continue to get the EPG data for free, but new open source users with no license had to be blocked. TO make this work, they moved the license check. Previously, when you installed the Sage software on your PC it checked for a valid license during install and at various other times, but the EPG server didn't do any checking. Starting a few months ago (I think July of 2015), they changed it so the EPG server would check for a valid license. Then, they removed the license checks from the Sage software in the open source version. So, if you use the new Opens Source Sage (OSS) version 9, you will still need an old license if you want the free EPG data. If you are a new user and don't have a license, you can still use the OSS version, but will need to get your EPG data another way.
