Sage Seems TB Tuning Channel For No Reason ?
Couple of SiliconDust HD HomeRun duals - 4 tuners total.
When I monitor usage, sometimes I see that one of the tuners is tuning a station that has not been scheduled for recording, is not the current "Watch Live TV" channel, and seemingly has no other reason tb recorded - yet it is being tuned by SageTV (based on the Network Target box in HD HomeRun Config GUI. Not a huge deal because it's seldom that I have Sage recording 4 shows simultaneously. But when I test and try to explicitly record 4 HD shows concurrently (checking bandwidth on the connection to the tuners) I do find that the mystery channel being tuned prevents Sage from recording a 4th channel. Funny thing is that those mystery channels/shows do not show up in Recorded TV.... but they are being tuned and are taking bandwidth. Kill the SageTV service, and the tuning stops instantly. Am I the only one?

Does any other service have any control of the tuners, some software from Silicondust by chance, Android, etc?

HD HomeRun View is installed - but it's a program that needs to be explicitly started by the user.... and I never use it. But I am re-thinking the notion that the unwanted activity stops the moment that the SageTV Service is restarted. Somebody just grabbed channel 6 and, when I restarted the Sage service, the other channels stopped, but 6 kept on truckin'.... It's starting to sound it's just me..... and something like you suggested: another app or service.

On the cablecard tuners, something similar happens. The SD application will show the channel tuned, but no software is saving the stream to the hard drive, and when Sage requests the tuner for a new recording, it just takes it.
I'm not entirely sure what the difference is, if any, with regard to the cablecard vs. clearQam tuners, but I am confused that if nothing is using a tuner why Sage won't simply take it back (or any other application for that matter). There has been talk about tuner locking, but I don't believe anyone around here has implemented it yet, so further confused as to why Sage doesn't just take the 4th tuner. The only thing that comes to mind is to run a scan of your system for any large files [being created] when the mystery tuner appears to be busy and see if you can locate the stream being saved. |

The HD HomeRun Config GUI app shows which port the tuned channel is being used by and netstat /n /a /b lists all the open ports and the apps associated with them. This time around it turned out to be, in spite of my assertion that I never use it, HD HomeRun View. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I've seen something like this happen a couple times a year with the Hauppauge 2250. Usually opted to reboot the server instead of just restarting Sage in those cases, don't remember if I ever tried just stopping/starting the service itself.
But I see you found the cause for your issue already. |
