New to gemstone (from SMM) sort by year?

I am trying to transition (with WAF) to gemstone and get off sagemymovies

The configuration I cant seem to find is using the wall view

I would like
1. Text titles somewhere on screen for selected item?
2. Decrease delay before the info pops up on the right

But most importantly
is there any way to sort by Year? instead of alphabetically.

Flow Optioons -> Customize -> Poster Title = On

Normally, I'd say you go into Flow Options -> View Options -> Sort By -> Original Air Date, but at I haven't been in there in a very long time (I have set up some very complicated views directly with the XML files years ago, and haven't touched them since), and it looks like there might be a bug preventing Gemstone from displaying the sort options.

I found the group by year, and then alphabetical, but its not quite what I am looking for. It puts sub folders (oldest to newest) . I would prefer newest to oldest, and it doesnt seem you can change it.

But what the WAF really wants is the SMM style where there is a single wall with year sections, is this possible?

I just tried it on my V7 setup and I had no issues adding Original Air Date to the Sort.

Did you try in V7 or V9? Although I do not see why it wouldn't work on V9 either.

The instructions you provided worked fine for me.

Can you describe what you mean by "Year Sections"?

I tried with Movies and it works. All video files get interpreted with an Original Air Date so it should work and does for me.

Then no, that's not one of the display options. Gemstone's grouping is layered, not consolidated onto a single screen.

Interestingly enough, it works fine on my v9 server, but doesn't on my v9 client. To be honest, I'm not sure that it has ever actually worked on my clients, as I've always configured my views entirely on the server, then export->import to the clients.

For movie objects, the sage function that returns original air date returns the year (I believe). I do know that sorting movies by OAD does sort them by year properly.

@Fuzzy - On one of my less used PC clients I have no options listed for grouping and sorting. On my main PC client and Server I have options for both grouping and sorting options. Something odd going on.

sory by Original Air Date doesnt work for me, since they are imported movies.

If Year were a metadata field (its not) or Year was in the sort by, I would be good to go.

Otherwise I have to find a way to add the original air date as metadata to 2300 movies

most of my movies are imports, and they seem to sort fine.

I use my movies to manage which exports a properties file. The file only contains year (not original air date)

Would you mind posting the text of one of your .properties files for a movie? Maybe I can work with the my movies folks to make it work

I found the spec for the API. The problem is OriginalAirDate is missing from the .properties file of exported MyMovies files

2 options
1. Have Sage fall back to year if OriginalAirDate is null
2. Add OriginalAirDate to Mymovies .properties.

I will pursure #2, is #1 possible?

#1 is likely possible. I haven't looked at all into the metadata API's.

What month/day would you propose to be used with the year? 01/01/yyyy I presume?
