I'm having struggles getting an IR blaster working with my Directv and I see that its possible to use a hack someone on here made to tune the receiver via ethernet. Don't want to get talking about piracy but wouldn't it be possible to use a key for Sage since it's open source now or would copywrite still apply?l

You need setup the with Hauppauge IR Blaster frist then get it working that way, then sagetv should work after words.
There is no hack Directv that is build-in Directv to be with outside DirecTV2PC software in remote tuning and viewing as it no diff then old school serial port tuning like we had before with Dishnetwork boxs.
I would go with this DirecTV STB via ethernet tuning I use it and it works very good just besure read the post there you will need setup the receiver to assign static ip address for all to work.
Seach this forum "license key" you will not need sagetv key soon as some one fig out how build new v9 exe for windows but Not 100$ sure on that but then there the Schedules Direct EPG plugin which need be fix as well who don't have a license key.
But it have a real SageTV v7 license key that is just for SageTV EPG Server Data.

The V9 source code has been released, but there are as of yet, no official builds/installers for it.

If you're just getting started, I'd recommend sticking with the latest version 7.

There is a Sage Marketplace forum area here;

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=52

Where you can post a request to purchase a SageTV server license from another user. You can also keep an eye on Ebay to see if anyone is selling a Server license there. When you purchase a server license, you seller should provide you with the original registered purchaser name, and license key.
