HD-PVR + STB native output sometimes records wrong resolution

I just discovered a hidden menu that allowed me to enable a "native" component video output from my two QIP7100 set top boxes which are connected to two HD-PVRs. After selecting the native mode, when I change channels, sometimes the HD-PVR records video in the wrong format (720p or 1080i) for a given channel. The problem goes either way (records 1080i on 720p channel or 720p on a 1080i channel). It seems that if things are working correctly on one channel, and then I switch to a channel with the other resolution, there is a chance that it may retain the previous resolution.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or does everyone lock the video resolution to 1080i? Is there a solution for this? Thanks in advance for any info.

I don't know about that particular set-top-box, but yeah, the typical recommendation is lock the STB down to either 720p or 1080i (in the STB settings). I go with 1080i as I seem to have less audio sync problems (when audio is coming in via optical).

I figured it out - increasing the tuning delay from 4000 to 6000 makes it work:

mmc/encoders/{tuner_ID}/delay_to_wait_after_tuning=6000

I guess it needs time to settle down.
