Native Resolution Output Not Working

I've enabled Native Resolution Output on my HD-200 but it doesn't seem to be switching to match. Checking the files properties I see 480i as expected. When I check the input resolution on my amp I see 1080i. Toggling the Video Out I see it switch 480p, 720p, 1080i. It always seems to upscale as much as possible. I'm guessing this is because I'm using HDMI but why are no interlaced formats available when I toggle Video Out ?

Make sure it is enabled in the setup - in the interface prior to attaching to the SageTV server. You have to check all formats on I believe. What happened to me with native output and 480i not checked, I would get a black screen, but that may have been changed in a recent firmware

I turned it on in both the setup and 'client' menu's. I'll check again to confirm. Of interest is that I am not offered and interlaced formats to enable. My guess is this is HDMI related or perhaps beta firmware related. Another guess is that because 480i is not available the Sage just uses the default resolution (1080i)

What do you mean you're not "offered" any interlaced formats? But if you don't have 480i enabled, that's why it's not switching for you. It will only switch to enabled resolutions/timings.

In the extender video setup where you select which resolutions are available I only see 480p, 720p, 1080p, and 1080i. 480i is not on the list.

Not at all, or not selected?

Not at all in the selections available. Weird... Does it enumerate the HDMI connected device for available resolutions I wonder. I'll try connecting it directly to the TV instead of through the amp.

I've never seen 480i not listed. It's never auto detected for me (even though it works), but it's always available.

How is your HD-200 connected? Mine is HDMI to a Yamaha amp and then HDMI to the TV.

Update: Turns out my Samsung HL-R6164W does not support 480i over HDMI or DVI *sigh*

I've used HDMI and Component. The 480i option is always there, but almost never automatically selected.

hey folks,

new hd200 user here, in media player (standalone) mode, but since more folks are in the extender section of the sandbox, i'll post this question here.

can anyone confirm that the auto resolution function works?
i will be hooking this up to a dvdo vp50pro video processor which, of course,
smokes the sigma chip in signal processing prowess.

i can't quite tell from the above discussion if this feature is working properly or not...........even toggling the video resolution output from the remote is a HUGE step forward compared to resetting the resolution in 'settings' for each video, but having it work automatically is nirvana

thanks

I got annoyed with the toggling so I wrote a plugin that pops up a menu to choose the output resolution.

See here:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/down...do=file&id=294

I also wrote one for SageMC but haven't gotten around to uploading it yet. Will do that soon

On thing with the auto resolution switching is that it does not match timings (1080p24 vs 1080p60). It will always choose 1080p60. One of my projects is to write a plugin where the output is configurable by what the input is. However, I've been busy with work and life and haven't gotten around to it yet.

now i'm confused...........
so it picks the resolution automatically but not the frame rate.

if i understand your post, the issue limited to 1080p24 and 1080p60, and the standard TV formats 480i, 720p and 1080i all go through fine? (i.e. what goes in is what goes out?)

On one of my tvs I cannot display 480i (the tv can but Hd200 has a problem) connected via HDMI (haven't tried another connection). If I go the the HD200 setup screed, you can toggle through the different outputs and I have trouble on the 480i and 480p. But I do get switching on 720p and 1080i. My tv is a 1080p tv.

Yes, that's correct. I think it has to do with the fact the 1080p24 is a custom resolution that you have to add manually to the .properties file for the extender (not one of the default ones: 480i60, 480p60, 720p60, 1080i60, 1080p60) so the extender doesn't know what to do with it

Yes, that's correct.
If it doesn't know what to do with it, would it just use your default resolution?

I have mine set as 1080p for default. I don't have 480i setup as a switchable resolution (cuz it has trouble, see my post above). So, when I watch a 480i file, it defaults to 1080p.

So, if everthing is 60, then trying to play a 1080p24 would the extender default to 1080p60 or whatever the default resolution?

In my experience it switches to match to the resolution. For example, my default resolution is 1080i. When I play a 1080p24 movie it changes the resolution to 1080p60.

Also in my experience, if the extender can not match a resolution it will use the default one.

I have two HD100s and two HD200s. Neither of the HD200s will detect 480i move on my TVs, but both HD100s will. I have reported this as a bug to support. I would recommend that you do the same.
