mmc/always_tune_channel=true

I verified in both the Sage GUI settings and the Sage.properties file on the server that this setting is as shown in the title. Apparently it's been this way for years. There is a 3 or 4 hour timeout on the STB, so I've always wondered why re-tuning the station does not prevent the STB from asking the question to "press <something> to continue watching this channel."

The tuner in question (one of four different tuners) is an HDPVR with a USB-UIRT. After sitting and watching the UIRT and the STB during a show change, I verified that the USB-UIRT does NOT re-tune the channel on a consecutive program on the same station.

Is there some other setting that prevents the anticipated operation of this option?

Not that I'm aware of, but I noticed the same behaviour a year or two ago... after the Google take over so I never bothered to report it as it's not going to be fixed now anyway (and it doesn't really affect me negatively, I just happened to notice it one day when investigating something else).

On my STB I have the same issue. Requests to change to the SAME station don't reset the timeout. Changing to another station works to reset the timeout though. So if I'm gone for the weekend I'll make sure to setup some dummy or timed recordings.

With a little more fooling, I verified that this is only an issue on back-to-back recordings on the same station. If there is any gap in time between recordings on the same station, it WILL in fact re-tune the channel.

It almost seems like there are (2) different settings for forced tuning, but that only one of them is exposed - as if the setting that would apply to forced tuning on back-to-back recordings is just missing.

Additionally, I'm a little surprised that this setting is a global setting rather than on a per-tuner basis.

I wonder if they changed this when they made changes to try to fix the "gap" that occurs between shows when watching live TV?
