Using Slingbox with SageTV

This discussion is split off trom a thread on Google Fiber/SageTV 8.

There was some discussion here about how to control Sage remotely with IR or other apps.

Is there any way to turn on the SageTV extender without using the Slingbox IR control? I believe there should be a way to turn on an extender as they are generally in Standby mode when "off" so they are still somewhat alive. I can't really leave my extenders on since I have a lot of them and when you start to use too many it causes problems.

I believe you can also use a "Play in Client" link from the Web UI and/or Mobile web UI to play an existing recording to a specific client - such as an extender connected to a Slingbox. That works for Recordings and I believe it should also work with LiveTV.

Anyone else have any other tips on using Slinbox with Sage?

Yes but using the IR control to power on the extender seems to be fastest.

I use TiSageTV to issue commands to my extenders from my iPhone. The "power" option doesn't appear to start the extender though it does put it in standby mode. The custom reboot command I setup can bring an extender back from standby, however, reboots aren't as fast. I would recommend setting up the IR blaster that comes with your Slingbox.
